'Hunger Games' Star

Tricks Grocery Store

Into Selling Him Whiskey

4/28/2012 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Josh Hutcherson took a not-so-cheap shot at a Ralphs Grocery store
19-year-old "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson took a not-so-cheap shot at a Ralph's Grocery store -- he posed as over 21 and got the check out clerk to sell him an expensive bottle of whiskey.

We got this pic of Josh leaving the Ralph's in Sherman Oaks on April 18 with a bottle of Macallan whisky in hand -- which, by the way, goes for $170.

A source tells TMZ ... Josh used a fake ID to score the bottle.

It's interesting ... a few weeks ago we got Josh on camera, grousing, "I think the age to go to war is 18 ... so I think the drinking age should be 18 as well."

A spokesperson for Ralphs tells TMZ, "We strictly enforce all laws relating to the sale of alcohol to minors.  We will investigate these allegations and take any steps necessary."

Josh could be prosecuted and the maximum punishment is 6 months in jail, although in reality he'd spend no time behind bars.  Authorities could also go after Ralph's for selling to a minor.

We reached out to Josh's rep.  So far, no comment.

When you are a public figure you can NOT do the same things your friends that are NOT public figures can get away with. Ralphs ask for id and he showed them fake id so how will Ralphs be in trouble?

TMZ, you just exhibited the typical cutthroat mentality that pollutes the god forsaken land that you all reside in. Never mind the consequences. Along with that dingbat in the picture with a smirk on his face. Go back to Canada or join the army !! ******* !!

Not Ralph's fault he's a criminal, they did everyhting right. He should be able to have a drink at 18, but carrying a fake ID another thing.
Moron, you should have bought one of those recyclable cloth bags. I'm sure you can afford it.

The fact that this douche bag wants to compare fighting for ones country to illegally drinking alcohol just shows how much of a douche bag this dingbat really is. Someone really needs to wipe that smirk off his face !!

Who gives a sh*t?!? He did what thousands of kids his age do every day, largely caused by silly liquor laws. Yes, silly. TMZ, I think this was not necessary at all.

Seriously wtf

Wow TMZ what a bunch of rat finks you all are! I would expect most of America has done the same, or similar when they were underage. Get a life and quit screwing with a rite of youth. Geesh.

Everybody is posting that because the clerk sold him the whiskey he or she will lose their job. Did you read the part in the story that says Josh used a fake ID? Unless the clerk was aware that the ID was fake they should be in the clear.

First of all, I'm sure it happens all the time in L.A. and the cashier will probably be fine. Secondly, the store must have been happy to get that pricey bottle off the shelf, for as much as it costs...look how dusty the box is! Who else is gonna buy it :P Regardless, yes, TMZ are rat bastards for alerting the store...as if they are against underage drinking when their freaking business thrives on the outcome of wasted celebs, no?

I was becoming a real fan of this guy until this week. I used to be 18 and I am Irish so to criticize him as a person would be hypocritical. As a celebrity with many young fans and after being the youngest person ever to receive the GLAAD Vanguard award, he has a responsibility to be at least appear to be a role model. Josh not only broke the law, he got the employees and manager of that store in serious legal trouble and a record to prevent the younger employee from getting a decent job anywhere else. He also accepted that Vanguard award for being the founder of Straight But Not Narrow knowing that he didn't found it at all and his best friend Avan Jogia (actor-Nickelodeon's Victorious) founded it and worked extremely hard to get it up and running with some amazing people at Cause Creative! josh only did a PSA. Knowing Josh I am sure he will redeem himself in some way from this.

While it's true that "if you can go to war you should be able to drink", all these lazy ass kids aren't signing up to join the military. It's a lame excuse to get what they want, which is trashed. How about if you are 18+ AND IN THE MILITARY you can drink. Otherwise, way to go Spoiled Overnight Celebrity #3045.
