Ashton Kutcher's new commercial for Popchips has officially been PULLED amidst allegations of racism ... after the actor donned brownface makeup to play a goofy Bollywood producer.

The ad -- which debuted on the Popchips website -- featured Ashton playing a variety of characters in a spoof "dating" commercial ... including a biker, a hippie, and an Indian guy named Raj.

The ad pissed off a whole bunch of people -- including blogger Anil Dash ... who called the ad, "a hackneyed, unfunny advertisement featuring Kutcher in brownface talking about his romantic options, with the entire punchline being that he's doing it in a fake-Indian outfit and voice."

Dash explained on his blog, "I think the people behind this Popchips ad are not racist. I think they just made a racist ad."

In the wake of the backlash, Popchips took down the ad ... and Popchips CEO Keith Belling issued a statement saying, "We did not intend to offend anyone. I take full responsibility and apologize to anyone we offended."

When the white man does it it's offensive. When another race does it it's hilarious.

People carry this "political correct" comments way too far. It is a joke, treat it as a joke. If Indians are hurt by this, they are too sensitive.

Then all ads that portray anyone as stupid or funny should be banned.

No more racism against whites - all of the white guys on the Big Bang Theory are stereotypical nerds - this should not be tolerated in 2012!

people are so friggin sensitive, if you lack a sense of humor, i pity you, for lead a very sad life. And before someone lashes back about how this "perpetuates racism", well, it doesn't. Fear and ignorance perpetuates racism. Offensive, maybe (if you're a prude). Racist, i don't think so. That would mean the ad is trying convey inferiority and/or discrimination.

White people you DO NOT get to judge if this ad is racist. Maybe the Indians are offended because this is not a fair representation of them. May it all ads with white people showed you guys as white trash or hill billies etc you would be offended too. I have met quite a few Indians and most of them are educated and well spoken. And this country does not belong to whites. All races are considered equal here. If you don't like it you can move somewhere else.

Why is making your skin brown to play an Indian character a bad thing? Why is playing an Indian character a bad thing? I am a blonde and I don't get offended every time somebody puts on a blonde wig and acts like a stupid, slutty bimbo.
These people crying "racist" are the ones that have the problem with their skin color, not everybody else. They assume that because somebody dresses up like them that it must be for a "bad" reason, or so they can be put down for being less than other races. When really........ its just a character in a commercial. That is all it is.

It maybe just a commercial to you but they maybe tired of being portrayed in this light. Why not run a ad about their accomplishments instead of something that tries to show them in a negative light.
These ads serve as fuel to all the ignorant people out there who have never had a chance to interact with people from these backgrounds. If you didn't know people of Indian ethnicity have the highest median household income ($103,552) of any ethnic group here. The national average is $51,222. All i am saying is that there is room for change and these kinds of ads do not help.

If you think this ad is ok you probably think that a black face KFC ad is fine too. Isn't it the same concept? Maybe you feel it is ok in this case because this group has a smaller voice. The concept is the same.

If you think this ad is ok then you probably think that a black face KFC ad is fine too. Wouldn't that be the same concept? Maybe people feel that it is okay since this is a smaller group of people and don't have as strong a voice. The concept is the same.
