Time magazine cover with breastfeeding
The 3-year-old kid suckling from his mother's teet on the cover of Time Magazine is NOT too old to breastfeed ... so says a powerful breastfeeding organization -- but they do have one gripe.

TMZ spoke with Bettina Forbes -- co-founder of Best for Babes -- an advocacy group dedicated to educating moms about breastfeeding.

Forbes tells us, "We understand that Americans are uncomfortable with [the Time cover], but in cultures where babies wean themselves normally, usually somewhere around age 3 or 4, it is perfectly acceptable."

She adds, "Think of it this way -- some cultures have been drinking green tea for millennia, only recently has it become popular in the United States once the health benefits were understood and it was popularized by marketing ... breastfeeding is the same, it is accepted and valued in many cultures, but not yet fully in the U.S."

As for the gripe -- Forbes says her first choice would have been Jennifer Garner in the role of breastfeeder ... but "we're happy with anything that is an appealing image, provokes conversation, and ultimately desensitizes people to breastfeeding."

You know what? I just took a real good look at that picture again. It sort of looks like maybe the kid and his mother were at Little League practice. They both look a little sweaty and in need of a shower and some clean clothes. Maybe the kid hit a home run and that was his reward.

WTF! Sincerely, not only this kid isn't 3, how long was he required to hold the position to get a picture right? How long was the photo shoot for? Nothing against breast feeding but not when a child is used in a picture...definitely kiddie porn and should be censored right away. TMZ is showing enough teenagers alike breasts and butts all week long, it should just use judgement and censor this one. It's got nothing to do with freedom of choice to breastfeed. Pedophiles must be busy downloading this one legally!

The ignorance of some of the comments here astounds me and makes me sad for the future generations. Are people really that uneducated about health and their bodies? Especially the women?

I am bothered by the title "Are You Mom Enough?" I am all for breastfeeding and I think that it is great but don't send a message to denigrate mother's who can't breastfeed for whatever reason. Like so many other mother's out there I was unable to nurse my kids because I couldn't produce milk and believe I tried very hard to make it work. This cover sends a message to moms like me that you aren't mom enough.

That kid looks more like he's 5 or 6 years old, not 3. Gross.

They are not showing the full picture. I saw it on daily mails's website and was so disgusted. She also talks about taking a photo breastfeeding at the Playboy Mansion and said it was the most appropriate place, but didn't explain why. I wonder? yes, there are other countries that my do this, but we are fortunate to have easy access to nutricious foods/water. She even breastfeeds her 5 yr. old. I'm thinking she is sick and using her kid to get in magazines.

I too am a female, and I think this is disgusting.
You can't tell me women don't look like cows when we do this.
Cover yourself. Nobody wants to look.

so at what point does an image of breast feeding become an image of child abuse?

My best friend is unable to breastfeed her baby due to complications after her c-section, and when she saw this picture today she got so angry. She literally screamed at the computer asking where the supporters and advocators where at for women like her. Time magazine and others that are supporting breastfeeding need to realize that not every mother has a choice in weather they want to breastfeed or not, because sometimes things happen that take that choice away from them.

There's a problem here

I'm looking at that kid thinking a few things: 1. Lucky kid. 2. Is there a father involved in this bizarre ritual? What does he think? 3. I think that may simply be the kid's dessert because it looks like he's had his share of cheeseburgers.
