Bono

Facebook WON'T Make

Me World's Richest Rocker

5/18/2012 10:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

051812_bono_washington_times_launchLooks like Paul McCartney's title as world's richest entertainer is safe ... 'cause Bono says his stake in Facebook will NOT push him into the number one spot.

Bono was in D.C. this morning to attend a fundraiser for President Obama ... when a Washington Times photog asked about reports that the U2 frontman's $90 million investment into Mark Zuckerberg's social network will be worth $1.5 billion by the end of the day ... making him the richest rocker on Earth.

FYI -- It's been widely reported that Bono's investment company, Elevation Partners, bought up 2.3% of the company in 2009.

But Bono didn't appear too stoked about it ... in fact, he cast doubt on the entire story.

That ... or maybe he's just trying to be modest.

The video first appeared on The Washington Times.

H is truly a capitalist. Nothing wrong with that...until he denies being one.

The IPO bombed. It closed only up 5 cents a share. And the only reason that it didn't tank altogether was that the brokerage underwriters propped-up the stock price so they wouldn't have major PR fiasco on their hands. So, the underwriters lost money by continually buying up shares. The only people that made money were the employees and owners of the company BEFORE the IPO!

What you folks fail to realize is Bono is only one of many investors in Elevation Partners....he doesn't personally own a portion of Facebook - the conglomerate of investors known as Elevation Partners does. So while he stands to make a lot of money - he is probably right - once the proceeds are split between all the investors his share will not be anywhere near $1B.

Another fund raiser for Obama? I wonder if Obama is aware that he has a job to do other than fund raising.

He doesnt' qualify anyway - Bongo and B12 are at the most, hard-edged Adult Contemporary.

1.5 Billion from 2% ownership is the easiest money he's ever made.

Bono should give all his money to the miserable and downtrodden. He's made enough money from the notion of saving the world....

So much for Bono's favorite bit o'the Bible being about "Jesus and tossing the Money changers out of the temple". Maybe U2 bought the temple?

By the number of comments here, it's obvious no one really gives a SH!t about Bono(er). Good, time for him and his stupid blue glasses to go away.
