'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood

I Need Prison to

5/26/2012 9:32 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

"Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood thinks prison is the only way to save her life from a brutal drug addiction, TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us, immediately following the reality TV star's incarceration, her last drug test came back positive for the opiate-based drug Suboxone ... a highly addictive drug similar to Morphine.

Law enforcement sources tell us, Portwood admitted she can't control herself around the drug -- even buying it off the street during her court-ordered drug program.

We're told Amber believes prison is the only way to get clean because it will force her to kick the addiction cold turkey.

Portwood is currently locked up and a judge will decide her sentence in the next couple of weeks.

Mr/Mrs. Judge .. by all means, give the girl what she wants. Give her the full 5 years with no chance of parole. I bet the state of Indiana can do that for her. That should do the job of weaning her off of this heroin-like drug.

Hopefully, she'll go to a women's prison where it is extremely hard to smuggle any kind of drug ... even if corrupt prison guards try to do it. I hope the prison is super strict and they don't allow "girl on girl action" either.

the truth

when you first start taking subox you do get a good high. after a while you get addicted and you need it so u dont get sick. this is the worst drug out there and i say that because doctors dont warn you about getting addicted to it. its VERY hard to stop taking. it goes for $25 -$30 on the street. i was just saying what Amber was saying on tmz last night. she does feel prison can save her from drugs.YES there r drugs in prison but you have to pay lots of money to get them. in rehab , the patients switch their pills with other people in rehab. but subox is a horrible drug. they give it to u for pain pill and heroin addicts. i call it the devil. so do other people that no about this drug.

Suboxone is used to help people get off of opiates and heroin. It's similar to morphine only in that way. People are able to abuse morphine but Suboxone has naloxone which PREVENTS people from abusing it. Once you try to abuse it, it puts you into immediate withdrawal and makes you intensely sick. But I wouldn't know anything about that....

There are a LOT of drugs available in most prisons.

There's a problem here

Hey Portwood? Nice of you to think about **YOUR LIFE** yet again. Remember that child you bore who is probably already a hot mess because of you. What about **HER LIFE**? It's all about you isn't it?

Yes, TMZ. Fact check this- you may be referring to Subutex (not Suboxone). This is a huge factual error. Suboxone is one of the few FDA approved drugs for opiate addiction.

This is BS. TMZ needs to keep their facts str8. Suboxone is used to stay off opiates. If Amber were to take an opiate while on it, she would get immediate withdrawls. It has naltrexone, which prevents users from abusing it. I can't imagine anyone getting addicted to this drug. Also- it would not come up in a normal urine screen. They would have to specifically test for it. This story just sounds full of bogus to me.

Suboxone is NOT an opiate. Doctors prescribe it to patients trying to wean off opiate type drugs. So if you want to get OFF of morphine, you most likely will be perscribed Suboxone. Get your drugs straight dummy.

Suboxone that amber is on is an opiate blocker. It does not allow narcotics or opiates to get into the blood stream. But it does keep her pain at a certain level!
