Gwyneth Paltrow

Triggers Racial Controversy

after Using N-Word

6/4/2012 10:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

0604_gwenith_paltrow_on_stage_twitterGwyneth Paltrow ignited a firestorm of criticism after blasting the N-word to her one million Twitter followers this weekend ... while describing a Jay-Z and Kanye West concert in Paris.

Paltrow was rockin out Friday at the "Watch the Throne Tour" ... when she decided to send a twitter pic of herself on stage (above) with the rappers and the caption "Ni**as in paris for real." If you've been under a rock -- or if you're Kris Jenner --  that's the title of a Jay and Kanye song.

The tweet triggered a tidal wave of negative internet buzz ... with fans questioning whether Gwyneth was using the term in a derogatory way. GP later responded unapologetically, "Hold up. It's the title of the song!"

That said, Jay and Kanye did go on to perform their hit song "Ni**as in Paris" a whopping 11 times that night.

She was clearly using the term to fit in. She's just another wannabe poser. There was nothing derogatory about what she said. And only an idiot with an attitude would think different. Ya, that means all of you!

This isn't controversy. Jay Z's rap career is done, Beyonce is now irrelevant now that Jay-Z is replacing her with Rita Ora, and Goopy's marriage is over. They needed attention and this is how they got it.
The better question is: why does the Carter family still carry that kid under a blanket? My thought is because the kid doesn't look like either one of them.
The kid looks exactly like the surrogate.
Pimp Mama Tina will have to dig an extramarital affair with a Latin guy out of her wig to save her granddaughter's face.

yeah...it's ok for every rap singer or African to spout the N word but if ANY white person says it, it is horrendous, such bull****! They keep the racism alive and well with the 'it's ok for me and not you' attitude

So sad...why do people want permission to use this word? 80% say fair game for Gwenth? No no no.

You see, these two IGNORANT rappers chose to put that word in that song. They may not care who uses it, but they do not speak for all African Americans. I, an African American do care and I do not use it in my home, nor did my parents, nor does my family, nor do my friends, and nor should Gweneth.

Can we please just stop using the word? And while I'm at it, can people please stop thinking that people like Jay-Z and Kanye represent all African Americans? Please?

How come TMZ uses the G word with impunity but censors all other slurs? Shouldn't it be reserved for olive skins and voweled surnames? Or is there a double standard where hate speech is concerned?

It's the name of a song, if you don't want me to say that word, then change the name of the song.

I am so tired of the black community and their martyr attitude when it comes to that word. You bring it on yourself with addressing each other with that word. If you don't demand respect from each other, then how can you respect from others?

Also, I read several comments about slavery...really? What does slavery have to do with her tweet? NOTHING. Plus, I never owned a slave, so quit preaching to me about slavery. I am full blooded Italian, we had our own problems going on, so get over yourself.

Really? Black people can say whatever they want whenever they want but white people have to get approval first. I think black people cause their own racisim by making everything about race. I'm sure now everyone will be tripping over themselves being politicly correct to make them happy. Whole thing makes me sick.

it's the name of the SONG for the love of God. Are those "firestorm" people brain dead?

If Beyonce tweeted that, there'd be no controversy.

white people love to claim equality or whatever. When blacks enslave you for 400 years, whip you, beat you, lynch you, practice segregation and discriminate against you at every turn then we can call it even and equal and you can say the N word. Until then stfu. Nothing but a bunch of whining pansies.

1. People on here are using a lot of generalizations. 2. I am African-American and I do use Black and African-American interchangeably (maybe that's just me) some people on here think that no one of that ethnicity uses that term
3. Not every Black person uses the N word. It bothers me to no end when I see countless comments "Blacks use it". At my family gatherings we don't go around saying "n this, n that".
4. Rap is primarily to blame for the continuance of the use of that word and it's just the promotion of ignorant behavior (sadly a lot of rap today is about that)
5. If a word offends me I have a right to get offended by its use. Oddly enough I didn't get offended by Paltrow's use of the word as I could say is "We do it to ourselves". Meaning she wouldn't be saying or tweeting the word willy nilly if the song hadn't been written...thanks Jay-Z and Kanye. Two idiots that constantly promote negativity. Especially Jay-Z...you haven't sold drugs in 20 yrs so stop rapping as if you are still slanging rocks and that it's a lucrative avenue with a positive outcome if you stay in the game...you idiot!
