EXCLUSIVE

It doesn't matter that his father is ULTRA-RICH, Diddy's son Justin Combs deserves his football scholarship to UCLA and shouldn't feel bad about taking the money ... so says Justin's brother.

TMZ spoke with Quincy Jones Brown -- Diddy's informal stepson from on-again, off-again GF Kim Porter and asked about the controversy surrounding Justin. Should his family's enormous wealth disqualify Combs from scholarship contention?

Brown explained ... it's not about the money, it's about the prestige ... and Justin has EARNED the prestige of being a scholarship athlete.

"He deserves a scholarship," Quincy explained ... adding, "He is a true talented athlete."

Special celebrity appearance at the end of the clip -- check it out.

We know he is good enough to play and rich enough to pay. So a good guy would donate the money to an organization at the school that maybe gives scholarships to musicians, math or science students, or maybe to a program that helps ordinary students on the campus. It just shows once again that the 1% are so out of freaking touch with the rest, and are s*** bags.

Leave the Scholarship to a kid who doesn't have family wealth. Don't be so freaking arrogant.

He may deserve his scholarship, but it's not classy to accept it when his father has millions. It could go to somebody who also deserves it but couldn't go to college otherwise. Piggish behavior.

Why should he have to give back a scholarship he EARNED just because his Dad is rich? There are plenty of not famous rich kids attending college on scholarships should they give them back as well? My niece has a full ride to a great college based on her academic acheivements. Her Dad pulls in a salary in the high 6 figures so I guess her having EARNED her scholarship through hard work should not count?

Let him take the spot on the team, then GIVE the scholarship money to another student, or as a donation to the school. I'm sure the school would agree to those terms. Education is the point anyway.

For those acting as if he is stealing money from some person's pocket: Most people qualify for student loans and can put themselves through college. Besides, scholarships are for those who prove themselves either athletically, or scholastically . Grants are for those who are struggling financially. You can get a grant form the University, and also from the Government or many other organizations if you are in need. This isn't an either or situation. If you deserve the money, you get it, rich or poor.

Wow. First of all, Justin Combs isn't rich, his dad is. Secondly, no deserving person that would have gotten a football scholarship will miss out. Not one. Universities make their money from football so there is no teeter tottering on that. Third, Justin earned that scholarship and worked hard for it. If he walked onto the field to play and was then allowed to play, all of you would say his dad paid for it, his daddy's rich, why couldn't he earn it like a normal deserving person etc. There is no winning with haters. I say he earned it, he keeps it, he uses it. I wish him luck and say congratulations on a job well done.

he earned it, that's true. But the classy thing to do would be to make an equivalent donation for an academic scholarship for disadvantaged youth.
