Andy Griffith Museum

'We are Brokenhearted'

7/3/2012 10:05 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The people who run the Andy Griffith Museum in his birthplace of Mount Airy, North Carolina tell TMZ they are "brokenhearted" over the death of the TV icon ... saying "We are blessed to have known him."

Tanya Jones -- the Executive Director of the Surry Arts Council -- also oversees the AGM ... which contains the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia in the world.

Jones tells us, "Andy Griffith means the world to the arts everywhere -- not just here in Mt. Airy.  His contribution to us, the Surry Arts Council, and the town of Mount Airy cannot be measured."

She adds, "We are blessed to have known him.  We will cherish his art, his music, his talent, and of course, our beloved Andy Griffith Show."

"Our prayers and love go out to Cindi.  We know that Andy is at peace and that is what is important right now."

I live in Mt. Airy and he will be greatly missed. We thrive on tourism and people come to town to see where the vision of Mayberry came from. Mayberry, the characters, and everything pertaining to show is everywhere including the museum and the Andy Griffith Playhouse.

South Beach

Loved, loved, loved this guy. Ron Howard said he was just as he appeared on his show, warm, compassionate and common sense.

Thank you Andy, and R.I.P. You're one of the good guys and will be missed.

They should be thrilled the geezer finally croaked. Now they might actually get some foot traffic through their lame museum.

Awww, love the statue. Looks like it could be any childhood summer memory of fishing with your daddy. Good times. RIP Andy.

What is so reassuring is that this was a star who NEVER thought he was above anyone, never was a drunk, drug user, or woman abuser. He was a REAL MAN!!!!

He might of been great in movies ill show respect to the family since he is dead but one thing dont realize our town had to pay him a substantial amount of money for him to come visit his own home town and dedicate a statue to him.Im speaking as a taxpayer and citizen of andys hometown as well.
