Gov. Chris Christie

Fightin' Words

On the Jersey Shore

7/6/2012 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0_2yjedc81_0_7ipzit1lThings got downright HOSTILE on the Jersey Shore last night -- with NJ Governor Chris Christie getting into a heated verbal altercation right on the boardwalk ... and it was all caught on tape.

Gov. Christie (R-NJ) was hangin' with his family in Seaside Heights ... and had just ordered an ice cream cone when a passerby fired off some snide comments about Christie's policy on education.

Christie got PISSED -- and while clutching his cone, shouted back at the guy, "You're a real big shot ... you're a real big shot shootin' your mouth off."

The man shouted back, "Nah, just take care of the teachers!"

The comment only inflamed Christie ... who aggressively marched towards the guy and warned, "Keep walkin' away ... really good ... keep walkin'."

Soon after, someone in Christie's party put his arm around the 49-year-old and escorted him in the other direction.

FYI -- Christie, one of the prime contenders for the Republican Vice Presidential nomination, has recently signed legislation expanding public funding for charter schools ... a decision that has infuriated some who would prefer the money go towards struggling public schools.

Christie's temper has been making headlines after he called a reporter "stupid" and an "idiot" on Saturday for asking off-topic questions at a news conference.

Christie's camp had no comment on the story.

This guy is NOT a conservative. He put a homosexual on the State's Supreme Court. Now I wonder how that would play out if homosexual activists used the courts to create homosexual "marriage?" We saw how that played out in California where a single homosexual judge (no agenda there) decided that he knew better than 7 million voters. What a disgrace.

Was Mr. Christy really 'fighting' with a passerby or was he putting a rude individual in his place? For years, people of class have allowed rude and crude individuals to mouth off and attempt to publicly dishonor them and have said nothing in return. All of a sudden we are seeing an about face as with Mr. Christy and others that have chosen to give as good as they get. I say, good for them, it's about time that big mouthed, crude behavior Is being addressed by those who have stood by and allowed others to spit on them in the past. Good news!

Re : comment # 518 by Carlo

Sorry, Carlo. I watched the video.
In the video, when it is clear the heckler isn't stopping to listen to the retort Christie is making, Christie stops walking in the direction the heckler went. At that point, sounding very angry and frustrated, Christie says : "Keep walking", as if to say : "Okay, don't listen."

Christie acted like some snide nobody on the boardwalk was like, you know, created equal to a governor or something. I mean, how nuts is that? Doesn't the big lug know any better?

And I'll tell ya, he's got some nerve putting educational opportunities for brats ahead of the desires of respectable, unionized teachers. The kid's don't even vote, for cryin' out loud.

If I hadn't once been a young, low income mother, faced with the prospect of watching my little girl's time wasted in a bad, New Jersey school, I'd be outraged right now.

But right now, all I can say is : God Bless you, Governor Christie. And good luck.

I don't understand this myth that NJ schools are so terrible and that the teachers are a bunch of rich fat cats running around doing nothing all day. The problem as I see it is a generation of kids who are so self entitled, they think someone has to make them learn when they don't even try themselves, someeone has to make them do the work when they have no discipline, and someone has to put up with their horrible attitudes and not be able to adequately control them.

The reasons why schools would work is because teachers were given respect, by the other students and by the government. Now all that is changed and they are treated like interchangeable fry cooks at a fast food chain.

They idea of low performing schools is a myth. There are low performing students. There is nothing a teacher can do about someone who won't learn or can't learn. Teachers are the new scapegoat. You could say Jews instead of teachers and pretend you are in Germany in the 1920's.

Parents can't control kids in their own home, then they let loose twenty of them at a time on a teacher who has to not only contend with them, but get them to settle down and learn. Honestly I had many teachers who didn't teach, who just basically presented material or even sabotaged efforts at learning. Then you learn to rely on yourself and apply yourself and learn what you have to.

You can't blame the teachers if students aren't learning. You have to look at the whole picture.
