Natalie Wood

Death Certificate Changed

7/7/2012 4:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Natalie Wood's death certificate has been changed from "Accident" to "Undetermined" ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the L.A. County Coroner filed documents making the change late last month.

Members of Wood's family tell TMZ ... detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department -- which has reopened the death investigation -- paid them a visit earlier today informing them of the change. They tell us ... detectives told them the change was made in part because some of the bruises on Wood's body were inconsistent with death by drowning.

Family members add ... they were told at this point authorities can't prove definitively Wood's death was accidental or the result of foul play. Detectives did tell family members Wood's death was definitely from drowning, but the way she ended up in the water is unclear.

Wood died November 29, 1981 after an alcohol-fueled party on a boat off Catalina with Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken on board.

Law enforcement sources tell us their investigation is still active.

It looks pretty obvious that Robert Wagner had something to do with her death. We already know that Robert and Natalie got into a big fight the night of her death because Robert thought that Natalie was making out with Christopher Walken. And now it is revealed that Natalie had bruises all over her body. You would have to be nuts to think that this is all just a coincidence.

Maybe it was the Zodiac killer?

Show some respect, If this were your relative, no matter how big or small of a star they may have been, you would want a PROPER investigation, she was a devoted mother of two young daughters, there was NEVER a proper investigation the first time, swept under the rug because of the big star she was and those involved PAID to "make it disappear". This proves there was some foul play involved!

Is it just me or does anyone else see Katie Holmes playing Natalie Wood in an upcoming movie? She looks so much like her!

Glad to hear this. I was always troubled by the fact that she would go out in a dinghy in the middle of the night, given her fear of water.

I remember vividly, the day her death occurred. At the time, it was commonly agreed that RJ was responsible for not saving her, which in my opinion, constitutes a crime. I remember thinking that Jill must have been jumping up & down with glee!

this is pretty easy to figure out. You have Natalie Woods on a boat she can't swim at all and I mean at all but for some reason she was in the water. So when that happened while did Robert help her or Christopher Walker or the captain . Nobody did nothing. Good luck to the detectives this is a real doozy your going back. Put it this way I was 17 and 50 now. good luck detectives.. ;-))

Oh please. Drunk people routinely fall off boats. There's nothing mysterious about that. I feel sorry for her family dredging this up again.

Originally, it was reported that she couldn't sleep because the dingy they had was banging against the boat all night so she went down there (in the complete darkness) to stop it from banging...OK, that makes no sense...she was (so it has been said) deathly afraid of 'dark water' and that she would drown in this kind of thing. So...that being said, why in hell's name would she go down to the water's edge and try to manage this noise issue by herself in the dark? It sounds so made up and contrived by those who remained on board that I am amazed anyone bought such a stupid and flimsy scenario at all. Oh, there's alot more to this story...somebody knows the truth and those two guys on board that boat know the real deal....they know who they are...somebody is lying...somebody is lying....

South Beach

This case will go nowhere as long as RJ is alive. After he's dead, some "new" information will surface. Count on it.

Isn't Robert Wagner like 80+ years old now? He might as well just admit it before he dies.
