Joe Paterno participated in a 13-year conspiracy to hide Jerry Sandusky's sexual crimes against children from authorities ...  so says a new report issued by investigators connected to the Sandusky case.

The Freeh Group --an independent investigative task force hired by the Penn State University Board of Trustees -- released its report moments ago ... and according to investigators, Paterno, along with the most senior leaders of PSU, "failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade."

In fact, the Freeh report concludes ... Paterno ... along with PSU president Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz "repeatedly concealed critical facts" in order to prevent bad publicity for the school.

According to the report, Paterno knew about allegations concerning Sandusky since at least March of 1998 ... but failed to take any action to prevent Sandusky from having contact with young children.

"They showed no concern about the victim," the report reads.

"At the very least, Mr Paterno could have alerted the entire football staff, in order to prevent Sandusky from bringing another child into the Lasch Building."

The report says Paterno failed to take immediate action after Mike McQueary told him about Sandusky raping a boy in the gym shower in Feb. 2001 because Paterno "did not want to interfere with people's weekend."

The Freeh report classifies PSU's non-action as "catastrophic failures."

Just last month, Sandusky was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse ... and will most likely spend the rest of his disgusting life rotting away in prison.

Joe Paterno died back in January at the age of 85.

I'm wondering when churches, schools, public officials, etc. are going to talk out LOUD AND OFTEN warning about child sexual abuse and teaching prevention? It has been "in the closet" for far too long.

This is hardly surprising... just spectacularly disappointing.

There is no true hero, folks, just flawed humans that sometimes to the right, sometimes don't. So you would be wise to think twice before viewing anyone as a saint, cause, most of the time, you will be proven wrong.

I don't think it was a coincidence he died before the case against Sandusky started. I think he willed himself dead because he knew he was just as guilty as Sandusky but didn't want to go threw the public humiliation, ridicule and hatred. It's disgusting anyway you look at it and more so because you know you that other people knew what was going on and helped cover Sandusky's trail and looked the other way. Despicable!!!!

If Paterno were alive today and visited my cage at the zoo, I would throw chimp poop at him.

Well, gee. You can't ruin someone's weekend just because a CHILD WAS RAPED. That would just be rude and inconsiderate.

If something happens in a school by ten years it's not the guilty of a couple of people, everyone has failed. I don't know, for me something smell bad in this case more than ten years and no victim, no gardener, no teacher, no guard, no director, no coach, no trainer, none of them open the mouth to say ey! what happen here? mmm something stink like ...

they should hold a trial for Paterno even though he is dead - just to show everyone that he was not a saint and serve as a warning to others in his position.

I've love Joe Paterno for as long as I can remember. This breaks my heart. Such a sad turn in life. He's probably lucky to have died and not have to face people like me who respected him and his great deeds.

Any time men rule without supervision from women this happens. It happens with priests, in the army, any old boys club is NOT safe for women or children. This is patriarchy and why men should never rule on their own. Sports, the military, sexist religions, etc.. NOT ok for women and children. Will we learn?
