Rafael Nadal

Bails on Olympics --

I'm Not in Condition to Play

7/19/2012 8:36 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

0719_rafael_nadal_getty_olympicsRafael Nadal just delivered some GREAT NEWS to everyone who's not a Spaniard ... he's officially pulling out of the 2012 Olympics ... claiming he's "not in condition" to compete.

It's a crushing blow to Spain ... since the tennis great won gold at the 2008 Games and was a favorite to top the podium this time around, too.

Rafael called the decision to bail one of the saddest moments of his career. He was supposed to be Spain's flag bearer during the opening ceremony -- but now it's likely he'll be replaced.

he just figured that the olympics are as gay as tom cruise. and only a whore like katie holmes would play in them.

Isn't any athlete who takes part in the Olympics supposed to be amateur? i.e. Not paid for performing their sport? Nadal makes a fortune from playing tennis so would he have been eligible for the Olympics anyway?

Its a shame. you always want the best to compete. You never know what can happen though. This will not be a slight against any winner. Nadal could have easily hurt himself playing or not playing. There will be no asterix on the Gold winner.

I´m a fan of his, but even I think TMZ should stop trying to be "Sports Illustrated". First they bombard us with stories about NFL players getting thrown in the slammer, now we hear about tennis stars. Enough already.

lol people are so stupid. He's not playing because he would fail the olympic drug tests and be exposed as an athlete. It's kinda obvious yet people can't think outside of the box. He uses performance enhancing drugs, simple. Olympic testing would expose him.

Hey TMZ Jackass's, He didn't "bail", he's hurt, and doing it for the team. If he loses because of his injury his team would not move forward. He would only hurt them. Always putting your dumb spin on it.
