'Batman' Shooter

'He Said He Was The Joker'

7/20/2012 10:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

James Holmes

Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes was sporting red hair and told people he was "The Joker" when he was apprehended by police Friday morning ... this according to NYC Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

During a news conference this afternoon, Kelly said, "We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the enemy of Batman."

ABC News is reporting Holmes made the Joker remark to police, not during the shooting.

It's likely Kelly obtained the information from Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates -- according to reports, the two are good friends. In fact, Oates was a member of the NYPD for 21 years.

Holmes may have been trying to recreate a scene from the 2008 movie, "The Dark Knight" ... which features a scene where The Joker, played by Heath Ledger, wears a red wig while destroying a hospital.

Instead of just making us pay for him to rot in jail, he should be executed. Unfortunately, our government is not that smart.

This may be a dumb question but why would an officer call the NY commissioner during such a sad and engulfing situation on the other side of the coast. Has anyone confirmed who Mr. Kelly spoke to from CO and why they specifically called him? Did this person call other cities (Los Angeles, DC or Chicago) and give them this warning or commentary that was provided to NYC? I figure if anyone would have that info it would be TMZ.

Thanks

Stop referring to this murderer by names that refer to the movie. Call him the Movie theater nut bag or Aurora butthead. Don't kill the movie or in any way make idiots look up to this guy.

James Holmes must of watched the movie called "Rampage". I saw this movie a few months ago, and it seems all too familiar. The guy in the movie "Rampage" also receives numerous deliveries to his residence JUST LIKE JAMES HOLMES!! Watch this movie to get a better look at the similarities!!!

Some people just need a good smack on the back of their heads and a job to keep them occopied. Too much engagement with "futile theory" leads to that kind of ... outbursts.

I like to know how the movie theater employees let him slip by and get into the movies with a gun while they were searching him for illegal candy not purchased at the theater.

TMZ, you've gone to ****. There were a total of 5 statements made by survivors of the Aurora Shootings that said, and I quote, "He was not dressed nor did he call himself the joker. Where are you getting these stories from?" The man was not link to the joker, he did not call himself the joker and the only 'jokers' here are you guys for following the reports of three 20 somethings that made the 'joker' bit up. ****ing sad.

This is a WAY trivial detail, but I always thought the Joker had green hair and had been wondering why mass-murderous geek James Holmes had painted his hair red. So thanks for showing the origin of the red wig version.

Was the poster the guy had of a paint ball warrior from "Rampage"?

Tragedy and the vultures that follow
Credit: (Image via Twitter/@igkros)After hearing about the shooting in Aurora Colorado my first thought, after the initial stunned shock, was to how long it would take the US media to start recklessly disrespecting and harassing the victims-no surprise they dropped all the election bull****, all the reality show updates for the mindless masses(even sports will have to mean a little less for a while)and directed all their energy on a catchy slogan(Movie Theater Massacre), and witty batman/ribbon icon to commemorate the tragedy. Of course this mindless dribble was accompanied by candid photo's of victim's and victim's family members in shock and the firm grips of hysteria, not only because of what just happened but also because some ******* has a camera in their face and is now badgering them about mundane details like how many shots they heard, or what part of the movie it happened during. Leave these poor people alone you heartless savages, at least give them a couple weeks to come to grips with the reality of the situation. Besides, if all you vultures are patient in six months or so you can learn all they need to know about it from the made for TV movie.
No sooner than they had their recognizable icon and tasteless photo's/video did they start attacking gun laws. It was the same in '98, and then again in Virgina. As long as more than one person exists, conflict will ensue and eventually crime will be committed, it has nothing to do with gun accessibility. Obviously our society breeds a certain amount of psychotic man-beast savages who take advantage of the freedom that we've scraped together over the last 236 years and they need to be stopped. Countless interviews, months of Court TV coverage, debates on gun control, or made for TV movies are not the answer... There may not be anything that can be done for monsters like that. Harsher punishment? Group torture by the families of the victims in the public town square? Maybe if examples like that were made of spineless monsters like that **** necked coward we'd have less media control in our country.
