NBC to Sharon Osbourne

We Didn't FIRE Jack O.

Over M.S. Diagnosis

8/7/2012 6:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

NBC is lashing back at Sharon Osbourne ... claiming she was DEAD WRONG when she insisted the network fired her son from a reality show because he was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Sharon had told the media she was quitting her gig on "America's Got Talent" because NBC had "discriminated" against Jack Osbourne by dropping him from an upcoming reality show called, "Stars Earn Stripes" ... in which celebrities compete in various military-style physical challenges.

And to make matters worse, Sharon had claimed Jack was notified by e-mail ... just two days before production was set to begin.

But NBC claims Sharon is blowing the whole thing out of of proportion -- but admits the network decided to NOT ask Jack to participate as a contestant after going through vigorous medical screening.

NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt explains, "We hold medical information in strict confidence and therefore cannot comment specifically about Jack, but as a company that cares deeply about the health and safety of everyone on our shows — especially one like 'Stars Earn Stripes' that requires dangerous water stunts, strenuous physical activity, and uses live ammunition — we required all potential participants to undergo medical vetting to ensure that they could safely participate."

The statement continued, "Although we did not ask Jack to participate in the competition, we were able to offer him two substantial alternative roles on the show, both of which he declined. This network does not discriminate on any basis."

Greenblatt added, "Our hearts go out to her, Ozzy, Jack and his family at this time."

So the solution would be if Jack signed a waiver saying he releases the show from any responsibility if he gets injured to due his MS. Then if he drops dead, Sharon can only blame herself and him for letting him do the show. I don't think they would put a sick person in grueling physical competitions and then have to pay out when he gets sicker or dies.

Jack should take the other roles or just sign a waiver and Sharon shouldn't take it personally when a show tries to protect themselves from being sued or inadvertantly killing someone.

Maybe Jack should try out for Wipe-out. That looks grueling but doesn't go on and on. I have even heard of people reversing MS with natural cures that fortify the brain.

She's ridiculous. While Jack Osbourne may feel certain that he could compete in the challenges, it's pretty obvious that NBC has to listen to their medical advisers.
There's nothing they can do about whether or not a person gets cleared for insurance.

Well how many people get to say I’m going to quit my job because my son didn’t get a reality TV show.. She gets millions for working 31 days out of the year and really does nothing except say like or dislike!! Plus her son wants to jump out of planes and fire guns while going blind!! UNBELIEVABLE!!

Seems like a serious case of a family that isn’t used to hearing the word NO!!

Vigorous physical challenges are the very last thing someone with MS should be doing ... especially when he is just newly diagnosed and doesn't know what will trigger new problems. It is like a monster sleeping in the basement, and extreme physical demands are the very type of thing that can wake up that monster and unleash horrible flare ups that could make his like a living h*ll for years to come.
You have to learn to live with this illness and modify behaviors to keep the worst symptoms from flaring up and becoming disabling. And this is the LAST type of activity he should be doing if he wants his best chance at keeping his symptoms under control. I would be shocked if his own doctors would have approved of him participating. This is a very serious and miserable disease that one wants to keep in remission at all costs. NBC was acting in his best interests, both long and short term...too bad his mom isn't.

I think she's too emotional to be rational. Understandably. I feel bad for her and Jack over this.

I do think it was wrong of NBC to lie about why they fired Jack. They should have admitted that they were afraid that he could be seriously injured or killsed and then be sued as a result. They should have given that much respect to Sharon's intelligence, instead of leading the family on thinking he had the role when he didn't.

I think if Jack is willing to assume all responsibllity, he should be allowed to compete at the level which he is comfortable. If they eliminate constestants, he might be eliminated early and then their problem will be solved.

Who knows, exercise might even help his condition.

Who in God's name does she think she is; and what makes her think tha anyone wants to watch her or her talentless family. Their right up there with the Kadarishans as far as being a no talent bunch of trash. Good riddance _itch.

I've always loved Ozzy, but Sharon is a low-life, no-talent, totally obnoxious pig. Can't stand her. So glad to know that I can now watch AGT without feeling like I want to puke.
