WWE Star BLASTS Nike

for Signing Jon Jones

.... He's a BAD Role Model

8/9/2012 7:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

0809_cm_punk_jon_jones_NIKEWWE superstar C.M. Punk is furious with Nike ... claiming the sportswear giant is sending a HORRIBLE message to kids by signing UFC champ Jon "Bones" Jones ... who happens to be a convicted drunk driver.

FYI -- Nike announced it signed Jones to a MAJOR global endorsement deal yesterday ... a deal likely worth millions of dollars.

But moments after the announcement ... WWE champ C.M. Punk unloaded on The Swoosh ... saying, "Let's reward more drunk drivers with endorsement deals! #responsibility."

Punk -- who doesn't drink or smoke -- is referring to Jon's DUI conviction, stemming from a May 19 incident in which Jones drunkenly crashed his Bentley into a utility pole.

Jones apologized for the incident ... and after cutting a deal with prosecutors, his driver's license was suspended for 6 months.

So far, no comment from either Jones or Nike.

I quit supporting Nike a long time ago after they supported the animal abusing Michael Vick. Being a great football player does not make one a good person, much less a role model. Nike is all about the money. Support Nike if you think it's OK to electrocute, drown, and all around make life horrific for helpless animals. Shame on Nike and shame on those of you who think this behaviour is OK. Try working at the SPCA like I do and seeing what some of these abused Pit Bulls have been put through. If that doesn't get to you then you have no heart. Oh, and for those of you who think this is somehow about race you need to get real and stop using race as an excuse. It's about humans behaving badly, thier race has nothing to do with it.

Don't compare steroids to drunk driving. Steroids don't kill anyone but the people that use it possibly. Drunk Driving can kill a whole family. STFU. Athletes that drive drunk should be suspended half their respective season.

For starters, CM Punk is a total hypocrite. He does drink. Google him and you'll find images of him drinking in bars. So, his opinion doesn't matter.

Nike also stuck with Tiger. They have no moralistic integrity. It's all about the Benjamins and that's that.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to an intelligent person. Nike is not a "stand up" corporation people. Do a little research into the company. Nike does not produce, manufacture any of it's products on American soil. They have sweat shop factories in China where they can pay their employees 50cents an hour and then ship the products to this country at a WHOPPING 700% profit. When asked if they would consider opening at least 1 factory in America ( in Michigan ) to boost the poor economy there, they REFUSED. They're not exactly concerned with doing the right thing, only the most profitable to them.

c.m. punk lay off the 'hateraid' bro cuz wrestling is like one of the worst 'role model' things for anybody to watch, ever. he makes a mistake & can never be forgiven? jones is a great guy, a great role model & deserves any every & all contracts......

Hey Punk ---- participate in a real sport that is not glorified acting/stunt work and then you might have a valid opinion. You work in an industry that chews up athletes and spits them out. Look at all the premature deaths in professional wrestling. You are supposedly a member of Straight Edge who have a reputation for brutality in dealing with anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Also Nike didn't sign him as a role model. They signed him as an endorser to make inroads in one of the fastest growing sports in the US. Both will laugh at you all the way to the bank.

Why doesn't Punk play a real sport first, before 'blasting' anybody.

I love Punk. He tells it like it is and is one of the very few entertainers/athletes (sports entertainers) who doesn't give a rat's a$$ what people think. He's right about this too!

Oh Hush!! Atheletes aren't role models the parents and caretakers should be! Hell, Michael Phelps with his real good bong smoking azz is still on top and nobody says nothing! Sorry, it's a race thing again! Give it to him Nike and let Michael Vicks children have a puppy while you're at it!

I have to agree with Punk on this one. This isn't a matter of UFC vs WWE, Pro Wrestling vs "Real" Fighting. This is someone who is Straight Edge (No Drugs, No Alcohol, No Tobacco) calling out a company for endorsing someone who just got a Drunk Driving Conviction. Would you want your kids looking up to someone who doesn't drink, do drugs, or smoke. Or someone who drinks and drives?

Michael Jordan is a compulsive gambler, and cheated on his wife, no one had a problem with him representing Nike?
