John Lennon's Killer

DENIED PAROLE

8/23/2012 8:01 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

Mark David Chapman mug shotThe man who shot and killed John Lennon will remain behind bars ... at least for now ... because a NY parole board has DENIED his release.

Mark David Chapman -- who shot the famous Beatles member in front of Lennon's Manhattan apartment in 1980 -- has been serving 20 years to life for after pleading guilty to 2nd degree murder.

The 57-year-old went in front of a parole board today for the 7th time since the murder ... but New York corrections officials decided he is not ready to rejoin society.

MDC shot Lennon 4 times in front of his wife Yoko Ono on that fateful day. He later admitted he planned the killing because he wanted to become famous.

Chapman will be able to request parole again in 2014.

When you plan to kill someone, you should never be released. That is just plan evil. Especially if you did it to become famous. Now you are famous and you can continue to be in jail for ever. Hopefully he will never be freed

Murder is murder, and if someone commits it, then life as they know it should end as well. Not 20 yrs, for the rest of their life. John did not get a second chance, nor should this guy.

i don't dissagree he should stay in jail for as long as possible, but i'm curious as to why he should be in jail longer for killing john lennon as opposed to killing someone in general. the world works kinda weirdly. he will be eligible again for parole in two years. as a 59 years old man, what do you really think hes gonna do, finish off paul and ringo? as meritted in his behavior in prision, why should the taxpayers pay to keep him in jail any longer, send him to a halfway house and have him report to his PO often. this was well over 30 years ago. murder seems to be a double standard these days.john lennon was a impactful person but no better than any other murder victim, sorry yoko.

What's wrong with people? This is not about fame or who Lennon was per se. It simply comes down to a cold blooded murderer who premeditated another human being's death thereby committing first degree murder. More than that, he deprived Yoko of her soulmate and Sean and Julian of their father. They've all had to live a life with out John because of it. Chapman picked the right state to do it in. If he had done it in Texas he'd have been in hell long ago. Throw the key away and give the Lennon family peace of mind or should I say "Give Peace A Chance"?

Lennon was a genius, one of a kind (we were lucky he met McCartney and created so much amazing music). He was robbed of watching his kids grow up and his post Beatle life.

This guy should never be released. Period.
