2:00 PM PT -- Travis had "bloodshot" eyes and torn clothing following the incident ... this according to the police report.

11:38 AM PT --
A source close to Randy tells TMZ, the singer was NOT drunk, nor had he been drinking. The source says Randy's fiancee and her estranged husband were arguing over visitation of their son and things got violent ... so Randy jumped in.

7:45 AM PT --
The Plano Police Department tells TMZ ... Travis was cited for simple assault. We're told officials believe Randy was the primary aggressor.

Cops say ... there was a "family argument" taking place between a man and a woman ... and Randy got involved.

Randy's lawyer, Larry Friedman, tells TMZ ... the woman in the argument is Randy's fiancee, who was arguing with her estranged husband ... when Randy entered the situation.

Friedman says, "Randy Travis was the only man that came to the rescue ... fortunately even today chivalry is not dead”

Another man was also involved in the fight, but cops say it wasn't the husband.

More trouble for Randy Travis ... TMZ has learned the embattled singer was involved in a FIGHT in a church parking lot in Texas early this morning.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops responded to the church around 1 AM after receiving a tip about two men fighting in the parking lot.

We're told Travis was taken to the hospital after the fight. One source tells us Randy appeared to be "extremely intoxicated."

We're told the fight was over a girl.

Travis has had serious problems with alcohol -- he was arrested for DWI earlier this month after cops say they found the singer naked at the scene of a car crash.

And Travis was busted for public intoxication back in February after cops say he was hammered in a different church parking lot.

Attempts to reach Travis were unsuccessful.

It's time for Randy to be court ordered into a rehab center or sent to prison.

I really think Randy's troubles started when he married the woman he is with now. He needs to get away from her and get his life back on track by getting in an alcohol treatment facility.

Obviously Randy is not concerned about the DWI earlier this month. Otherwise he would have confined his drinking to his home or to a hotel room. Inebriated people don't know how to filter their behavior after the first drink. I hope he starts to take his alcoholism seriously and gets into a treatment program.

From the LOCAL news source. "“Everyone is making the assumption that he was extremely intoxicated, as TMZ put it,” Tilley says. “I’ve got the report, and there’s no indication he was intoxicated at all.’

Does the man have issues? Sure does. But sometimes, even TMZ isn't the most reputable news source. More wishful gossip in this case.

Whether someone likes Randy Travis' music or not, thinks he's good looking or not, thinks he's gay or not, none of these should be a reason for making some pretty cold and unfeeling comments that some have posted. WHERE is the compassion, and trying to uplift another person instead of making stupid immature and ignorant jokes and almost celebrating another persons downfall??? This is a human being here who obviously has some serious problems! Those who are making the comments, would you be making those same comments IF this was happening to your loved family/friends instead of Randy Travis? Think about it and be honest. IF your answer is "yes", then you need to seriously check your heart.
You should be ashamed of your comments because their is obviously no sympathy for someone who is hurting in more ways than one. You could always file a Missing Persons report with the police since the kind and compassionate person God created is no longer around-look at your comments and then into the mirror.
Those who are making uneducated remarks about alcoholism, need to do some research. Alcoholism is very real and so is drug addiction. God forbid if you have to find out through a friend or family members struggle to find out. Randy needs a lot of prayers. I too wonder if those in the music industry-both Country and Christian are reaching out to him or not, before it's too late. Whether he ends up in rehab or prison, he still needs to get God back in his life to fill whatever void he has because nothing else will fill it. My most heartfelt prayers are with him as I would like to see him be a walking testimony for God with his "story", and his music!

TMZ check all your facts on this. Not trying to defend him what so ever but I live in the Dallas area and local news is reporting something different. They are saying nothing about him being intoxicated or going to the hospital.

Country music seems to be the only type of music where people are generally clean when young then become drug and alcohol addicts late in their career. Normally it is the other way around.

I'm afraid ole Randy is going to wind up dead with all his alcohol problems. I hope he gets some help soon. Alcohol does different things to people, obviously it makes Randy rather violent given recent incidents. The great Hank Williams did the same thing, but he wasn't that violent in his day. Between the booze and drugs he was all worn out at the ripe old age of 29! These substances have claimed way too many lives of so many!
