Tony Scott

Cause Of Death

Not Officially Suicide ... Yet

8/31/2012 12:39 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Although it seems pretty obvious... authorities are hesitant to call Tony Scott's death a "suicide" ...  at least while they wait for toxicology and other test results -- this according to the "Top Gun" director's death certificate.

The document -- obtained by TMZ -- lists the director's immediate cause of death as "deferred." The manner of death is listed as "pending investigation." The doc also states that an autopsy has been performed.

As for the location of death, the certificate states, "Under Vincent Thomas Bridge."

The cert describes Scott as a film director who has worked in the movie industry for 43 years.

Tony's official cause of death is expected within the next few weeks.

Have analyzed death from variety of perspectives. One aspect is that not everyone who jumps dies. For example, golden gate has had a little over 2000 jumpers with 25 survivors. Could he be taking a chance? Also the timothy leary ashes in his home shows a close association with Leary. LSD and PCP have been associated with feelings of flying and a number of suicides by jumping from heights have been associated with these drugs. The reason for analysis of course is the senselessness of it all---a brilliant and successful director with a lovely family---and desire to find a cause which can put puzzle pieces together.

I have worked with Mr. Scott several times, and had the honor to work with Dezel Washingto, Bruce Willis and James Gandolfini. Hwas a great, and kind man. I will never except suicide. He had too much to live for. He will be missed. I am retired living in Oregon, and wish I could be there for anything. Thank you for allowing my response. RIP TONY

I worke with Tony Scott, and there never was a finer Director. Suicide is something I do not except. He was too full of life. Sure he had his problems, but don't we all. If Brain Cancer was the reason, I applaud him for his courage. He gave me the oppertunity to work with great Actors, like Bruce Willis, and James Gandolfini. God rest him where ever he is.
