Simon Cowell

'The Voice' is

Afraid of Britney

Simon Cowell is furious at NBC for trying to sandbag next week's premiere of "X Factor" by adding a Wednesday installment of "The Voice" ... declaring, "This is a cynical, cold-hearted, unprofessional way of doing business."

Simon tells TMZ, he thought he had a "gentleman's agreement" with NBC ... that "The Voice" would run Mondays and Tuesdays, and "X Factor" would run Wednesdays and Thursdays on FOX ... so fans could watch both.

Simon says NBC is turning on its own audience, forcing them to choose between Christina Aguilera's show and Britney Spears' new show. And speaking of them, Simon says, "Britney's not going to appreciate the fact that Christina -- who has been a bit of a rival -- isn't allowing Britney to have a night of her own."

Simon tells TMZ, he believes the move is as personal as it gets, because "The Voice" came to England and went head-to-head with Simon's show, "Britain's Got Talent" and got its ass kicked.

Simon says, "These guys have really got it in for us. It's nothing short of dirty tricks."

Cowell adds, "The reason they've done this is they don't want people to see 'X Factor' because they've heard how good the series is. They don't want their audience to see Britney Spears. They don't want their audience to see Demi Lovato."

Simon says he doesn't think Britney knows yet, but when she finds out "She's going to be devastated because she's put her heart and soul into this."

As for Cowell, he says he's not scared, adding, "I can't bear it that the network is playing political games and playing with the audience."

I think Simon the Narcissist has forgotten the biggest demographic...those of us who don't and wouldn't watch either show because it's nothing more than attention whores making obscene amounts of money for having no talent.

Though not a fan of either program I can have an objective take on this. It appears that what we have here is a mistake on the part of the Voice, cause you will have a market share that is already fixed in on XFactor. So the audience will be more familiarized with the contestants on XFactor thus hurting the market share of The Voice. So, the Voice has shot themselves in the foot that will hurt their ratings, and it almost seems as though there is a suicidal tendency to the Voice in this matter. It will be rather hard for that program to survive in direct competition. So if the gentlemen's agreement did take place you will see a loss of revenue for The Voice because of this which could actually harm it's renewal and even if it doesn't it will not have it's same time slot which will result in a slump even more in ratings. Basically The Voice will become the Joey of competition television

No worries Simon, I wouldn't watch The Voice if you paid me to. That crap show is an embarrassment to the music business. Bunch of CRAP people made out to be important in the music biz.. BUZZZ wrong. Their opinions don't mean $hit when it comes to judging talent.

ps.. same to your show too. Britney? REALLY? yeah okay.

If the X factor is going to be anything like the UK's version, then the same episode will be on what feels like a continuous loop so no one can ever miss it !!

I won't be watching either one. Sick of networks jumping on eachothers' bandwagons everytime a show hits. Please bring back real tv shows.

As a programmer for years this is a stupid move on NBC's part. Why split the audience and lower revenue? Absolutly dumb.

Does NBC have a new leader or something? This and their continuing poor treatment of Ann Curry makes it look like they have taken a turn for unnecessarily cut-throat tactics as a matter of course. Is a boycott in order?
