Gabrielle Giffords

Leads INSPIRING Pledge of Allegiance at DNC

9/6/2012 5:08 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Gabrielle Giffords just appeared on stage at the Democratic National Convention and led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance ... and the crowd erupted in an emotionally charged applause.

Giffords -- who is still recovering from the gunshot wound she suffered to her head during a shooting while meeting with constituents at a supermarket in Tucson in January 2011 -- was escorted to the stage by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

While Giffords had some trouble enunciating some of the words, she finished strong ... sporting a big smile while the crowd cheered her on.

After she finished, the crowd chanted her name ... with some people shedding proud tears.

Check out the clip -- pretty awesome.

How shameful. They trot her out like Captain Pike and his wheelchair. One beep for yes and two for no Ma'am. It's a shame the Democrats will use this poor lady like a Dime store mannequin.

Doesn't anyone remember how they trotted out poor old, dying of a brain tumor Ted Kennedy last time around?

I love that Gabby is a fighter, but to keep using her as a Democratic pawn is pathetic. I just listened to her husband who stated that both he and Gabby are CENTRISTS, which is FAR FAR FAR to the right of Mr. Obama. But honesty, as we all know, is not one of the Democrat's strong points.

I don't see this as political...I see a woman who has been through Hell and back and showing amazing courage and strength. I find it inspiring and a whole lot better than a story about what Lohan's stolen/drank/smoked/snorted/screwed, etc!!

Wow, I knew there were a lot of right wingers on this site....wait I"m not even going to call some of you right wingers because that is an insult to real right wingers who are decent human beings that I just disagree with. The people who made fun of Gabby, SHAME ON YOU!

And to the people criticizing the dems for bringing her out. She is a democrat, they made her part of the convention. Her husband was there with her, no one was taking advantage of anyone. Oh an by the way there are maaaaaany religious democrats.

She was a Democratic congress woman who didn't quit until someone shot her in the head... how is it 'parading' for her to choose to go to and participate at the DNC.. it's her party, if you want to wail about poor taste in parading around someone then you need look no farther than poor Clint Eastwood. Get the old guy all worked up then parade him out as the 'entertainment' for the RNC . Sorry an actual member of congress vs an 82 yr old actor is no comparison when it comes to parading someone around for your own benefit.

Reporters might want to ask Judge Steven Jahr why he continues torpedoing Californians and California with the shell game of the AOC.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz needs to stop leading Gabby around like a disabled dog on a leash. It's heartbreaking.

We love Gabby in Arizona. She was a fair and honest congress women. She could work across the aisle too. Hoping she will make a come back in the next few years.

The lady is incredible, but why use her disability for political gain? It's a shame that she's endorsing a socialist political party.
