U.S. Marines

Charged for Urinating

On Taliban Corpses

9/24/2012 11:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Two U.S. Marines have been charged in connection with a video TMZ posted, showing at least two American soldiers urinating on the corpses of deceased Taliban fighters, TMZ has learned ... and the men are also facing allegations involving a grenade launcher.

The USMC tells TMZ, the Marines -- Staff Sergeants Joseph W. Chamblin and Edward W. Deptola -- have been charged for "violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice" for their involvement in the urination incident.

The USMC says the incident is believed to have taken place during a counter-insurgency operation in Afghanistan on or about July 27th, 2011.

Chamblin and Deptola were also charged with other misconduct that allegedly took place, which includes:

-- Being derelict in their duties by failing to properly supervise junior Marines
-- Failing to require junior Marines to wear their personal protective equipment
-- Failing to stop and report the misconduct of junior Marines
-- Failing to report the negligent discharge of a grenade launcher
-- Failing to stop the indiscriminate firing of weapons

Deptola is also charged with failing to stop the unnecessary damaging of Aghan compounds, and wrongfully and indiscriminately firing a recovered enemy machine gun.

Both Marines belong to a regiment based out of Camp Lejeune, NC. They are now facing trial.

The USMC says there are other pending cases related to this incident.

The USMC says, "We will be as forthright as possible while preserving the rights of the accused and fairness and integrity of the military justice process."

I'd have given them each a medal...and a couple bran muffins so they could finish the job right.

Isn't urinating in public punishable by being put on the sex offender registry? That is the least the government should do to punish these people.

As much as I'd piss and shlt on them, I'm a civilian. As a military force we should be better than that ... or at least don't be stupid enough to get busted.

Good they should be charged, despicable behavior

This scares me cause it will only enrage them more to harm our soldiers. I guess the public has the right to know, but I'd rather this not have been released, except to their military superiors who would punish them. I'd rather read about it than see it, if you know what I mean.

HEY TMZ!!!!! you REALLY should not put these guys names up there for the world to see....first, u don't know if those are the right names, and second, do YOU want to be responsible for retaliation to their families here ??? What they did is horrible, but you should let the government do the PR work!!!!

We care more about respecting the Taliban than we do our own soldiers? Really? I can understand them getting reprimanded, but if they have to serve time or are dishonorably discharged, America will have reached a new low.
