NFL's Final Decision

TERRIBLE Call Stands

The NFL is backing what's being called the WORST CALL IN LEAGUE HISTORY -- refusing to overturn last night's Seattle Seahawks touchdown against the Green Bay Packers ... and standing by their replacement refs.

League officials released a statement moments ago, saying, "Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood."

The NFL goes on to say upon even further review of the video today ... it supports the "decision not to overturn the on-field ruling" and the result of the game is final.

In other news, NFL broadcasts are now available in braille.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and blame the replacement refs. But let's not forget the blown calls over the years by the real refs that were never overturned, some even in championship games.

Get over it. All this brouhaha is nothing more that union whining.

These guys will do just fine if you get off their backs and maybe the unions at fault here will learn a valuable lesson.

After this is hard times and the union excesses are the prime mover in a lot of the misery.

Need to enact a new rule. Everytime the Ref makes a bad call he/they gets phucked up by the other team on the spot. GB had that ball.

As a Packer fan, I know teams get screwed by poor calls, but you have to put it behind you and move on, hard as that may be. I am way more disturbed by the lack of humility and integrity displayed by Pete Carroll. This is a man (I use that word loosely) who bailed on USC when his feet were put to the fire. I look forward to Seattle getting the same treatment when they get screwed out of a win.

I could care less about football, but the Steelers acted like a bunch of big babies when they didnt get their way. They all need to suck in up/man up and play the final play like MEN not like a bunch of babies.

WOW...

Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3 of the NFL Rule Book defines a catch:

A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

(c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

When a player (or players) is going to the ground in the attempt to catch a pass, Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 states:

Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 5 states:

Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
Bottom line here is that: if they did reverse this on what is considered a bogus call, then they would have to reverse all the bogus calls-Meaning that GB would NOT have been awarded 2- 1st downs on bogus pass interference calls that enabled them to get a feild goal, Seattle still wins...Remember people, the refs do not see nor can they decide something based on slo mo replay....

i dont know why everyone is getting pissed at the seahawks, it was the reffs fault the hawks shouldnt have a bad rep for it. Even being an avid hawks fan i even think that the Packers should have won that game but **** happens. I think that the real reffs should either **** or get off the pot because this is bull****! END THE REFF STRIKE NOW!

You people need to learn the rules. When 2 players come down with the ball possession belongs to the offense therefore it's a td and since instant replay isn't allowed to be used to determine possession, only if the pass was incomplete or not then the call on the field stands.
