A fight broke out backstage at the BET Hip Hop Awards tonight between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy that resulted in shots being fired .. sources at the awards tell TMZ.

According to our sources, Ross and Jeezy exchanged words backstage and started pushing and shoving each other. We're told BET security and bodyguards for each of the rappers eventually separated the two.

Our sources on the scene say that after the fight had been broken up, a member of Rick Ross' entourage pulled out a gun while in the parking lot and shots were fired.

We're told Jeezy and Ross are still at the awards, which are being taped tonight in Atlanta and air next month.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department tells TMZ, "Shortly after 7:15 pm Saturday, a fight broke out in the parking lot at the Atlanta Civic Center (where the BET Awards were being taped) between two groups. Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue." Our sources maintain shots were fired.

We're also told that 50 Cent got into it with a rapper named Gunplay, a protégé of Rick Ross.

Can't we all just get along?

A rep for BET tells TMZ, "BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

This Jeezy and Ross beef is stupid. Even if Jeezy hits him with a couple lefts, Officer Ricky wins he hits him with his Miranda Rights.

WOW! This is AMAZING! Less than 24 hours, and already…….

Nearly 350 comments, and more than 8,800 tweets have went out from the TMZ website about this story already!.... a cat fight between two ignorant azz rappers, WHO DO NOT! REPRESENT THE ENTIRE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY!

Since July, there were only 54 comments and 162 tweets generated from TMZ's coverage of The Dark Knight Massacre, when James Holmes walked into a crowded movie theater and killed 12 INNOCENT PEOPLE, INCLUDING A 6-YEAR-OLD GIRL!

Hmmm... I wonder why the huge difference in the amount of attention and outrage given to these two incidents????

Maybe if the Dark Knight perpetrator had been a "RAPPER" the story would have got as much attention as the BET fiasco on this website???

Purple Label

TMZ is one if not the worst sites for racist to congregate. It is telling to see all of these vile comments and tweets were no one was killed yet when the theater killings in Denver happened with 12 killed and many many seriously wounded you hardly heard a peep from these same people except for God Bless, its so sad etc. Nothing about white culture needs to change, Nothing about republican controlled districts being havens for mass murderers. Nothing about suicide ruining white culture. Nothing about financial crimes committed by whites destabilizing the US economy.

Yep the prejudice and racist are in rare form today.

PURPLE LABEL: EXACTLY!

I don't get it. It's as if every time a bad element from the black community is exposed society acts as if they are the poster-child for all black people. But when a Timothy McVeigh, Jeffrey Dahmer, or John Holmes breaks the news, it's like OH! just another day!.... you never hear the bigots shouting about "Those White People!.... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!"

AMAZING!

I'm guessing OC spray is some form of low grade grape juice.

CHARACTER_ASSASSIN: OC spray (Oleoresin Capsi***) is just the technical name for pepper spray.
