A fight broke out backstage at the BET Hip Hop Awards tonight between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy that resulted in shots being fired .. sources at the awards tell TMZ.

According to our sources, Ross and Jeezy exchanged words backstage and started pushing and shoving each other. We're told BET security and bodyguards for each of the rappers eventually separated the two.

Our sources on the scene say that after the fight had been broken up, a member of Rick Ross' entourage pulled out a gun while in the parking lot and shots were fired.

We're told Jeezy and Ross are still at the awards, which are being taped tonight in Atlanta and air next month.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department tells TMZ, "Shortly after 7:15 pm Saturday, a fight broke out in the parking lot at the Atlanta Civic Center (where the BET Awards were being taped) between two groups. Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue." Our sources maintain shots were fired.

We're also told that 50 Cent got into it with a rapper named Gunplay, a protégé of Rick Ross.

Can't we all just get along?

A rep for BET tells TMZ, "BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Try to keep in mind, it's not a bunch of racists commenting.
...it's just 3 or 4 racists who have several TMZ accounts and screen-names, aliases trying to make themselves appear to be several people, to intimidate black people.
I've been on computers since the 80's, and been on hundreds of website forums and chat rooms, and have friends who both own websites and who have moderated and owned chat rooms....they see the IP numbers of the people who change screen-names.
It's very common for racists to create several accounts and screen-names and spam their feelings of racism.

How come TMZ never posts anything Positive about Black Celebs??...having black staffers i'd think maybe they'd speak up, but i guess they don't mind seeing our people depicted in such Negative Light SAD...

I have worked and still work with many rappers. For a while I started getting down on black people because of how these guys act ALL the time - and when thats all you are exposed to day after day..... I was told by a smart man, that there are black people, and there are ni$$ers. These guys are the latter. Its so true. I try to remember this now/

friggin IDiOTS. CLEARLY most of you commenting missed the part about Rick Ross' security firing shots. Neither one of the rappers did anything except shove each other. This has nothing to do with being black, being a rapper, or having "bling". and really if you aren't familiar with Ross' & Jeezy's background, you wouldn't even understand the "tit for tat".

Two altercations on the same page. The Game at a birthday party and a shooting at the BET's. Can we separate out this stuff into it's own page? It is so commonplace and literally of no interest to most. As sure as the sun is going to rise there is going to be a real or fake fight between rappers and frankly it's boring. While your at it can you put professional athletes on to their own page. First thing I like to do in the morning is to see which ones killed someone, got their DUI arrest and/or failed to pay their child support. Thanks for the redesign. It will really help to keep everything organized.
