'Steel Magnolias' Producer

Lifetime Remake

Is RIPPING Me Off

10/1/2012 6:10 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

1001_steel_magnolias_lifetimeThe woman who produced the disgustingly sappy tearjerker, "Steel Magnolias" is suing over the upcoming Lifetime TV remake of the film -- claiming she's not getting the credit or the cash she deserves.

Victoria L. White -- executive producer of the 1989 film starring Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, and Shirley MacLaine -- filed suit today against Sony Pictures and Lifetime Television ... producers of the new TV movie starring Queen Latifah and Phylicia Rashad.

In the documents, White claims she has a "Television agreement" that entitles her to a co-producer or co-executive producer credit on any TV project based on her hit film.

According to the suit, White also says she's entitled to some cash for the Lifetime remake -- including a $15,000 fee, plus up to 3.75% of net profits from the movie.

White further alleges Sony is fully aware of her TV deal ... because it gave her a co-producer credit and compensation the first time this happened. For those who don't remember (as in all of us), there was already a 1992 CBS TV movie based on "Steel Magnolias."

White is suing for compensation on the Lifetime remake -- and she wants an injunction to stop the film from airing ... unless she gets her on-screen credit. The movie is scheduled to air Oct. 7.

Here's what we can't figure ... why is this movie still being remade?

23-year spoiler alert: the chick with diabetes dies.

Those women are UGLY. Queen Latifah is the only one who is ok to look at. Where did they find these things?

It wasn't a TV movie in 1992. It was a television show that picked up right where the movie ended. They only got a couple of episodes in before it was pulled from the air.

Um... this is just... NO. So... should a bunch of white women remake 'Waiting To Exhale'? This is dumb. Not everything needs to be remade into a black version... ugh.

Hollywood can't come up with anything new so the keep remaking movies, good and bad. I have just seen the normal clips from this tv movie and I can tell its BAD!!!! I don't care who you get Sally Field, Shirley McLaine, Dolly Parton and I will say it even Julia Roberts can not be replaced. Come on writers stop remaking movies that are not that old.
I hope Victoria L. White wins her law suit.

ALL of these actresses in this remake should have said NO!!! But considering they are all on the C list right now... I guess a pay check is a pay check! Such a waste of film... and they better buckle up for some heinous reviews... because... that's what's coming! And PAY THIS WOMAN HER MONEY!!!

I'm sorry but how do you take a real story of a woman who died of diabetes and was white and turn it into a fictional black story....? Wouldn't the be like taking A Raisan In The Sun and making it all white.....Just don't do it for me. Plus the original cast will always be the best ouiser, Shelby, Ms Clarice, , annelle, truvey and
Mylynn.....no other cast can touch these women of the original.

This is a story that can not be remade or finished. One of my loves about this story is that it shows no real beginning or ending it's simply is a glance into the lives of some strong funny southern women with alot of soul and the friendship they share.
