LeVar Burton OUTRAGED

Former "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton is PISSED after Mitt Romney threatened to cut PBS funding last night -- telling TMZ, Romney would be stealing an invaluable educational resource from underprivileged children.

LeVar tells us, "I am personally outraged that any serious contender for the White House would target as part of his campaign the children of America in this fashion."

"Educators across the country, as well as millions of children and adults know that the programming on PBS has been responsible for significant improvements in education, literacy, math, science and life skills for generations of our children."

In case you missed the Presidential debate, Mitt promised to cut funding to PBS claiming it isn't an essential government expense -- but LeVar's firing back, claiming, "PBS represents .00016% of our nation's budget, yet this free resource benefits kids across all economic circumstances."

He adds, "Defunding PBS directly punishes the less fortunate by removing this trusted and extraordinary educational resource available to all."

"On behalf of America's children, I can't stay silent. I encourage you to join me in fighting this short-sighted and frankly mean-spirited attack on our children."

Children don't need tv as a babysitter anyway. Talk to your kids and teach them something...other than "watch big bird" and "mommy be back", Take care of your kids before they rob us in 10 years!!!

Big Bird makes big bucks for PBS. They don't need our tax dollars to stay afloat

Big Bird Makes Big Bucks for PBS. They don't need tax payer dollars or more debt from China to stay afloat.

I wasn't an underprivileged child and I watched Big Bird, et al. I wonder how much the government really spends on subsidizing PBS, in relation to the amount of debt he associated with it.
To those mentioning cable, you must remember T.V. is FREE and has always been. No one needs cable, satellites, or other T.V. watching devices to watch television. I haven't paid to watch T.V. in a very very long time. And when I did it was only for a very short period of time. I am completely up to date on all the shows I want to see, in HD too. I don't plan on ever paying to watch T.V. Antennas these days are fancy.

We are fools, the CEO of Sesame Street makes a million dollars a year, thanks to our tax dollars.

well PBS is a public donated channel, they ask for donations, more people DONATE so the Government doesnt have to foot the bill. easy as that, lots of rich people can donate money including Obama and Romney, gates, soros, rockefellas, jay z, anyone in hollywood, stfu and do something.

For someone like him who has had the means to bring up his own children "privillaged" and not have to go without because the heating bill needed to be paid. That is our America whether you like it or not. A society whose lives didn't get the "Silver Spoon" in there kitchen drawer. Those children benefit from these programs.

Too bad Mr. Burton didn't host the "Listening Rainbow"....Mitt Romney said that we should not pay for non-essential programs with BORROWED MONEY FROM CHINA!!!

I know Mr. Burton wants to keep his job...but common sense should come into play here.

Who care what LaVar Burton thinks about anything? He is just another person with another opinion and it has no more value than that.

I'm wondering how much LeVar has contributed to PBS over the years when they ask for donations from their viewers.
If the public believes/uses this channel and want to keep it on the air, they will support it financially.

The death of PBS is irrelevant. Since Disney owns the muppets franchise, Sesame Street will end up on Disney or ABC. Other more successul shows would get picked up by other networks. Problem solved.

I think there are people on here who are confused. Americans taxpayers pay for every cent of the government's salary. Every penny. WE voted to have free TV and low-cost cable, which was the way world was when PBS first came on the air. However, people got so lazy that they let the government turn TV into a pay service and sent cable fees soaring. WE, the citizens, voted to have the less fortunate learn basic education via their cable channels. So **** Romney and his need to harm the poor. If taxpayers vote for PBS to be aired via their taxpayer dollars then that is what the **** had better happen. This is why the current generation of Americans can't even be in the same room with Asian students in terms of educational brilliance; the inability to get a clue about the world around them.
