Big Bird Blasts Obama

TAKE ME OUT OF

YOUR ATTACK AD!

10/9/2012 11:01 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1009 big-bird
This article is brought to you by the letter P ... as in Sesame Street is PISSED that Barack Obama used Big Bird in an anti-Romney attack ad without permission!

In case you haven't seen it ... Team Obama released the ad following the debate, in which they mock Mitt Romney's vow to cut off government funding to PBS. The ad portrays Big Bird as an enemy of America who towered over criminals like Bernie Madoff and Ken Lay.

But Big Bird isn't laughing ... and neither is Ernie, Bert, Oscar or Elmo (and that dude laughs at EVERYTHING) ... claiming Team Obama never asked for permission before using the Sesame Street character.

In fact, Sesame Workshop released a statement saying, "We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

SW also explains, "Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns."

Obama's camp says they have heard Sesame Street's complaints and will be reviewing SS's concerns.

Oh, come on now. The right wing has been looking for ways to stifle PBS for years because of the perceived "liberal" bent. Romney was just throwing his intolerant base of dullards a bone during the debate.

People at Sesame street have stated that they are a non-partisan organization and obviously do not want to be seen as siding with one political party or the other. They have every right to feel angry and upset by this. I'm glad there is an organization out there that has decided not to use their celebrity to side with a certain party. There are other children's organizations that do get involved with politics and they shouldn't because it's in such poor poor taste and it looks so tacky when children's organizations or things that are supposed to be child-oriented end up being used for political gains/purposes.

Sesame Street got 1 million dollars in stimulus money to create jobs. The created 1.47 jobs, I am not sure what the .47 means. 1 job. This in addition to their regular funding.

I would vote for Big Bird if he were running against that useless pile of dung: Barack Obama.

Where is the part where they "BLAST" Obama and show how super pissed they are?? Saying they don't endorse political campaigns and asking the ad be removed is hardly what I would call angry, pissed off behavior.

Politicians have no business exploiting children's tv programs for their own agendas.

This reminds me of an SNL spoof. Mitt Romney's proposal to cut PBS funding and him calling out Big Bird during the debate were absurd. This ad mocks that absurdity. I think Sesame Street needs to relax - it doesn't make them look partisan, it's just political sparring.
