Police in Sacramento, CA have interviewed a WWE fan who was punched in the face by CM Punk during a live televised event Monday night ... TMZ has learned.

The incident occurred on "Monday Night Raw" -- when Punk went into the crowd after a match ... and several fans began to get physical with him.

At first, Punk shrugged off the fans ... but the wrestler snapped when someone made contact with the back of Punk's head.

Punk unleashes a punch at the person he thinks hit him ... taking the guy down hard.

The victim met with police shortly after the incident ... and a rep for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Dept. tells us the man didn't appear to have any major injuries that required medical attention.

But later that night, the victim re-contacted police ... and said he had developed pain in his knees.

Cops say officers took the victim's statement and are determining whether to conduct a full investigation into the matter.

A rep for the WWE tells TMZ, "WWE security was unfortunately not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk's persona as a 'bad guy' fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him and one struck him in the kidney and on the back."

The rep adds, "WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment."

I don't know what video some of you are watching but it's not the one posted here. Anyone can see at the :35 second mark the guy raises his hands in the air and at the :37 mark he CLEARLY strikes Punk in the back of the head. I am no Punk fan, I think he is a jerk, and I am not defending his reaction to it, he should have handled it differently. I don't even think the guy did it intentionally. But I am not going to skew the visual facts just to attack Punk.

I don't understand why people are saying that cm punk should be fired or he acted this way because of steroids. Firstly cm punk is straight edge so that means he doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs and if you look at his physique there is no way he does roids. Secondly, he was just defending himself. He was getting slapped in the back of the head and was almost pushed down the stairs twice. The guy CM Punk elbowed hit him in the back of the head and acted like he was just putting his glasses on. I don't condone violence but when a wrestler goes into the crowd it doesn't give the fans the right to punch, push or slap him. He was just tired of it and was trying to defend himself. The people who say punk should be punished are crazy.

Hey WWE how about you tell your talent to stop walking through the audience. That might help!

If sense were common everyone would have it.

Looks to me like he hit the wrong guy. The bald guy behind him wasn't the one who hit him, and if anything, the little f-tard behind his right shoulder is the one who deserved to get his clock cleaned.

CM Punk was in the wrong, but honestly, why would you hit the wrestler. He's a heel, he's trying to get ppl mad at him. But its entertainment. Some people in the crowd need to take that into consideration

first off thats not a punch ... he didn't knock him down hard... and guy is full of **** about his knees..

There is no criminal case and in Cali the civil case wouldn't be more than 500 tops.. This story is blown WAY out by people who have no clue on what the they are talking about including TMZ.

Most civil judges would toss this case out after seeing this vid.. so f'ing retarded...

Looks to me like he got what he deserved. You keep pushing your average joe around and he's gonna hit you back. This man is no different.

this is the best video of the incident.you can see a guy in a white shirt behind shades guy.pushes punks head.shades guy did nothing to punk.even so a shove of the head doesnt warrant a punch.you are in a crowd it could have been someone accidentally touching his head.dude needs anger management big time..

Not a big fan of wrestling, BUT it was the the guy in white shirt. He put his arm under the other guy and slapped him in the head. Lucky it wasn't that lil boy in bLACK SHIRT THAT DID NOTGET PUNCHED. He clearly pushed him hard in the beg. of video.

Firstly, as a FORMER fan of Professional Wrestling:
CM Punk is one of the most intelligent and skilled
performers in the industry. His "Straight-Edged"
persona, -which many confirm as legitimate- sets
a fine example for youth.

Secondly, as an always-aspiring CHRISTian, and Leader, I have personally noted many in American Society willfully put the "Turn the other cheek" metaphor, to the test. Be sure, when the Most Blessed Christ King Yeshua shared this edict with his disciples, CHRISTians were a small, heavily-persecuted sect, known as The Way.
Undoubtedly, beyond the example of Forgiveness,
was a pure survival-technique.
Yet, in a world filled with various-forms of Weaponry, -coupled with Hatred- Americans
are often in a -rightful- Self-Defense mode.
Indeed, we are ALL -ultimately- Creations of The True and Living Yahweh and -with few exceptions-
to engage in physical-attacks, is -both- unacceptable and dangerous, within a civilized society.

The House of David 20Twelve:
Hebrews Twelve;28-29 is HERE,
Daniel Twelve;1 is HERE,
Proverbs Twelve;7 is NOW,
Zechariah Twelve;8 is NOW,
St. Mark Twelve;36 is NOW,
Psalm 2;012 is NOW:
The Most Blessed Christ King Yeshua reigns!
ALL, for The Greater Glory of The True and Living Yahweh!

I've watched several different videos, and am wondering if this was set up? If not, Punk should have been the bigger man, and stepped away. I don't want to see the performers hurt, or the fans. Shame on the fans who took it too far and pushed Punk as well.
