Rick Springfield
's career has hit an all-time low ... literally -- going underground Wednesday morning in NYC for an impromptu performance of "Jessie's Girl" ... on a SUBWAY PLATFORM ... and it's awesome.

It all went down during rush hour -- around 8:00 AM -- Springfield whipped out his guitar out of nowhere for a flash mini-concert, belting out three songs for busy commuters ... including the classic "Jessie's Girl."

And as a testament to how awesome it was ... a massive crowd of New Yorkers -- who don't stop for anything -- actually gathered around to sing along.

Check the clip.

I did see him in concert one time & it was great. But this subway concert is something that only a handful of people got to see.

How very sad that a once vibrant performer has been reduced to performing in the underworld for a pittance. Perhaps someone in the know in New York will take pity on him and offer him some sort of employment more suiitable to his past stature. Again, let us not throw stones when someone has fallen so low.

Well he has not fallen low, , It was something he did for fun, just sold out a bunch of shows, so do your frickin homework before you rip on people. Coming from people that follow people around to take their picture. Get a life.

He has a new CD out and he is in town to promote it and a do***entary movie about his fans and he did this performance for HIS FANS. He tours all the time and did not do this to make money, he did it for fun. He's not broke as a matter of fact he has plenty of money and could retire but keeps touring because the fans want to keep seeing him and he sells out venues all over the country year after year. So put that in your pipe and smoke it!!

Very cool of him to do that !! We need more REAL performers in the entertainment industry and less autotuned crap.

I actually think that's Penn Station, next to track 20 & 21. The Subway (1,9,2,3) is actually above where he's playing...Sounds good either way.

Rick has a great life and lives in Malibu California. He is NOT hurting for $$. He's simply having fun and treating the NY people to something special. He's a good guy... so go easy on him.
