CNN

Tries to Blunt Romney

Criticism Over Candy

CNN's Managing Editor sent an email around the office today, praising Candy Crowley and trying to blunt criticism that she was unfair to Mitt Romney.

The email -- sent by Mark Whitaker and obtained by TMZ -- is almost a series of talking points to address Candy's critics.

Here's the full email:

"Let's start with a big round of applause for Candy Crowley for a superb job under the most difficult circumstances imaginable. She and her team had to select and sequence questions in a matter of hours, and then she had to deal with the tricky format, the nervous questioners, the aggressive debaters, all while shutting out the pre-debate attempts to spin and intimidate her. She pulled it off masterfully.

The reviews on Candy's performance have been overwhelmingly positive but Romney supporters are going after her on two points, no doubt because their man did not have as good a night as he had in Denver. On the legitimacy of Candy fact-checking Romney on Obama's Rose Garden statement, it should be stressed that she was just stating a point of fact: Obama did talk about an act (or acts) of terror, no matter what you think he meant by that at the time. On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We're going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time."

TMZ broke the story ... some honchos at CNN want the criticism to go away, even though it's shining a light on one of their most high-profile personalities -- and you just can't buy this type of publicity.

Look at the debate video and tell me they didn't cheat - Crowley had the transcript at the top of the moderators desk ready for Libya to be brought up. When Romney asked Obama about his speech the day after the attacks Obama said I did call the attack a terror attack Crowley lifts the transcripts up and said yes, he did say that - Obama knew she had the transcripts and she was going to back him up. Watch it and tell me the fix wasn't in. Not to mention the time difference and the interuption difference. A typical liberal journalist going all in for Obama - there should be an investigation - but Romney still beat up on Obama over his failed policies and Obama could say nothing because him programs are not working - there are still over 23 million people without jobs (more if you add the ones who've stopped looking).

Wow! During the first debate, the moderator was WEAK! He allowed Romney to talk over him as well as the President! Now that the new moderator(candy) maintained order during the debate, she is being attacked! The first moderator allowed Romney to control the debate and Candy simply maintained order! SO SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess what it all boils down to is the fact that if Romney gets elected if it suits his personal agenda he will rush on TV and blame who he wants taken out instead of being Precise and making sure of the facts.... Man is this country going to be in trouble!

I'll just be glad when the elections are over and we won't have to be subjected to any more of these lies and distortions for at least 6 months. 3 and a half years of campaigning is enough for a job that is only 4 years between elections. At some point you might try working.

Regardless of one's political views the moderator should be neutral. This Liberal wacko was way tilted towards Obama. I'm voting for Romney now just because Obama cheated here and it makes me wonder what else has he cheated on.

This bares repeating. Some misguided zombie referred to the "president" as a hero. Seriously? Would an American hero allow 4 Americans to die in Benghazi, then cover it up with story after story after story? CBS carried the news about the congressional hearings which have now presented more than enough sworn testimony and indisputable evidence that your "president/hero" knew well in advance that a highly planned assasination would take place on September 11th for impeachment. With do***ented memos, transcripts, e-mails, & personal communication with the Dept. of Homeland Security, the State Dept., & other intelligence agencies, Obama chose to do absolutely NOTHING, calling all these warnings and advise "unactionable." He hopped on a plane to Las Vegas, and by a cruel twist of irony, was campaigning and partying as the 4 murdered Americans' bodies were being dragged through the streets. Complete sexist pig that he is, he was thrilled when Secretary Clinton offered to "fall on the sword" for him, effectively ending her political career, but again changed his story when congress told him "she is your apointee--the buck stops with you," a phrase he now likes to quote from Harry Truman. So this is your idea of a hero? He will soon be joining a very select club of impeached presidents which includes his pal Bill Clinton, Andrew Johnson, and Richard Nixon. I think you'd better do some serious thinking about what does and does not constitute a hero, and for whom you'll be voting in November.

As a woman who has worked for decades for the rights and issues of all women, there is absolutely no way I will be intimidated, used, or threatened by cheap scare tactics I've heard most of my life. I can see through a cheap ass mysoginist a mile away, and it will take more than a stupid word to scare me. I know exactly which candidate not only sincerely respects us but will also ensure that the ongoing fight for equal pay, health care, and equal opportunities--that which should already be rightfully ours--continues with more than just words. President Obama, we see right through you--lying, incompetent bastard. Your ego was more important to you than preventing the murders of 4 Americans. Your arrogance was obvious when you first drooled over the fact that Secretary Clinton, a VERY hard-working woman, would take responsibility for your ineptness and dishonesty, effectively ending her political career. Mitt Romney will receive my vote, and the votes of tens of thousands of women who are FED UP with lip service and being patronized. Mr. President--pack your bags and get the hell out of our oval office. Now.

Obama is now involved in one liners and jokes about Mitt. It seems obvious the jr. senator who became the Prez cannot think on his feet and speak without a teleprompter and a baby sitting mediator.

Candy Crowley should be fired. She is a disgrace to journalism.. She made her self a part of the debate and she had no right to interject her opinion...not to mention she was dead wrong.
Her career is OVER. She has lost all credibitily.
I have been in the news business 40 years of my life and I have never seen anything so unprofessional.

So is it an amount of time you get for a response or is it a word count?
That's a pretty weak defense for admitting that you gave a candidate more time than the other. Especially when it's the sitting president that should be able to quickly state a response.
