Tries to Blunt Romney

Criticism Over Candy

10/17/2012 3:48 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

CNN's Managing Editor sent an email around the office today, praising Candy Crowley and trying to blunt criticism that she was unfair to Mitt Romney.

The email -- sent by Mark Whitaker and obtained by TMZ -- is almost a series of talking points to address Candy's critics.

Here's the full email:

"Let's start with a big round of applause for Candy Crowley for a superb job under the most difficult circumstances imaginable. She and her team had to select and sequence questions in a matter of hours, and then she had to deal with the tricky format, the nervous questioners, the aggressive debaters, all while shutting out the pre-debate attempts to spin and intimidate her. She pulled it off masterfully.

The reviews on Candy's performance have been overwhelmingly positive but Romney supporters are going after her on two points, no doubt because their man did not have as good a night as he had in Denver. On the legitimacy of Candy fact-checking Romney on Obama's Rose Garden statement, it should be stressed that she was just stating a point of fact: Obama did talk about an act (or acts) of terror, no matter what you think he meant by that at the time. On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We're going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time."

TMZ broke the story ... some honchos at CNN want the criticism to go away, even though it's shining a light on one of their most high-profile personalities -- and you just can't buy this type of publicity.

Candy and eye candy working together. Candy was the worst. She lied for eye candy. Candy had it in for Romney from the start. Not to worry America got to see it all. She was the worst moderator ever. We should put Ann Coulter in for eye candy and see what happens. Eye candy would be whining until the end of time.

Obama is a slow talker and Mitt is a slick talker. It is what it is. Do what Snyder did refuse to debate and sock it to us after you get elected.

A word count?! If the number of words mattered more than the time count, Romney should have spoken incredibly slowly – he should have spoken at approximately two words a minute, then taken up 80 minutes of the debate. He’d have been gypped on time, according Whitaker – he’d only have spoken 160... words. If CNN is now going to account for speaking cadency, they’re punishing people who are articulate, and rewarding people who say “um” a lot. Call it Obama missing telemprompter affirmative action.

it doesn't matter who you support - a moderator never inserts themselves into a debate period! -between that stupid format that let them wonder around and her insinuating herself into the debate - cnn is the loser!

The Obama people including the CNN Obama cheer leaders really do think we are idiots. Candy Crowley was so far up Obama's butt she saw Paris.

They got called on their obvious partisan moderator & this is their spin. Obama certainly performed better than the last debate, but to send in an obvious Obama supporter was cheap...really. Let's get someone who is truly unbiased!

CNN is like the rest of the mainstream media with their head up BO"s keester. what moron would write let alone send out such a stupid letter. Word count really, he speaks so... so what it's timed response, it doesn't matter how many words.

Candy Crowley should not fact-check someone in a debate. Especially since she was WRONG! This email shows how pathetic CNN has become. No wonder why at least 60% of the public no longer trust the media. Also, did anyone else catch it when Candy said on CNN that democrats and the republicans in the room each applauded during her pathetic ordeal? I thought this was a group of undecided voters? I hope everyone out there is smart enough to actually look up and study the issues. You will find out that the Democrat Party is not the party of tolerance and helping others. It's the party of using others for their advantage. Using minorities and women to benefit their causes. Also, it's pathetic that democrats have degraded women by assuming that all they care about is abortion and contraception. This is such a pathetic low blow to all women. Sorry democrats and media, but women are smarter and better than that. They care about the economy. They aren't blinded by the pathetic charade that this administration has created over the last four years. In the end, Obama will lose this election, and the little candy shop of horrors, is going to cause backlash that will secure Romney the presidency.

CNN cannot hide their bias. Voters don't want to
hear the moderator's opinions or see a debate so
This was a debacle. If I wasn't fully for Romney prior
to this (I voted for Obama the first time but will not
again) I certainly will vote for him now!

Saw these on comments section on Breitbart, any truth to these? They both make me feel queasy.

Proof Obama had questions in advance and was schooled to the questions ...very disturbing proof of cheating
2nd video 1:06 :35
Obama knew who Kerry, the questioner was, where his seat was, walks to him before he is supposed to know who the questioner even is.... starts to say Kerry's name before he is supposed to know...realizes what he has done...proving Obama had questions in advance and Crowley was in on it!
At 1:05:25....directs Candy to move on
Kerry may or may not know..I'd like to see Kerry watch that clip and comment
Obama without a TelePrompTer had to cheat

What's a guy like Barack Obama who at the last tax report had roughly about $7 million to his name, which supposedly came from money he'd made from book sales, plus his Presidential salary, which as is know not all that much for what the job entails, so what's a guy like Barack Obama who isn't all that rich by being rich standards, looking at homes in Hawaii worth in the neighborhood of $35 million dollars? Obama doesn't have that much money, even if he were to sell off his home in depressed Chicago.
Where's he getting all of this money all of a sudden, where's he getting all of these millions? Who's he been giving large contracts to, that would kickback enough money for Obama to feel financially comfortable enough to look at $35 million dollar homes on an income that only amounts to at best $9 million?
I sense another investigation will take place soon that's yet to unearth another side of this shady character from [who knows where] America.

Not that it matters, but Candy suddenly cares how she
looks, so obviously has either had a masterful makeup
artist or something altering her face.

Who cares who said more words? The time is what was supposed to be moderated and failed. When the debate started what Crowley said was you will each be given two minutes each to speak not you will be given so many words.
