Steps Down from Livestrong

Nike has ended its contract with Lance Armstrong -- claiming the athlete "misled" the company amid allegations of doping.

"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him," the company says.

Armstrong also announced he will step down as chairman of the Livestrong cancer-fighting charity as of this morning. Nike says they will continue to support the organization.

"To spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship," Armstrong says in a statement.

The move comes a week after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a report detailing Armstrong's direct involvement in what it called "the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen."

As we previously reported, Lance has been banned from cycling for life ... but he still denies any wrongdoing.

WELL DONE, NIKE!

Armstrong is a disgusting, bullying, cheating, lying *******, regardless of his charity work.

Good going, Nike! It's about time the public accept that not all of our "heroes" play by the rules. He's a cheater and worse, a liar. Someday maybe he'll come clean and admit how he scammed an entire generation, gave false hope, and ruined the integrity of the sport for decades. No one will not doubt all cyclists from now on. Gee, thanks Lance, if that's even your real name. Live strong, you lying liar.

I might be confused here, but didn't he pass all of his drug tests? From what I've read on other sites, he never failed a test and even though they had no proof, he just didn't want to fight the allegations anymore. I'm not saying he's innocent, but I hope that the officials who took his metals away and pursued all of this were right. I mean, if they were wrong, then they pretty much ruined this guys life.

Why would anyone do something so stupid, they always find out sooner or later if you pull this garbage so it can't be worth the humiliation.

What the **** took them so long to realize that this man is a monster!! I guess money is the root of all evil. His entire career has been a lie and he should not be rewarded for it. At some point he has to admit his wrong doing. The evidence is clear & hopefully any other endorsements he has will also go away. Lance, you are the biggest lair on the planet, goodbye!

He's a phoney. Ive been following cycling my whole life. EVERYONE at that level has been using PEDs and no one who has any knowledge of the sport believed he was clean.
Nike has always stood by Lance through thick and thin, so their harsh statement has to sting!
