Booted from Nike

Steps Down from Livestrong

Nike has ended its contract with Lance Armstrong -- claiming the athlete "misled" the company amid allegations of doping.

"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him," the company says.

Armstrong also announced he will step down as chairman of the Livestrong cancer-fighting charity as of this morning. Nike says they will continue to support the organization.

"To spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship," Armstrong says in a statement.

The move comes a week after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a report detailing Armstrong's direct involvement in what it called "the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen."

As we previously reported, Lance has been banned from cycling for life ... but he still denies any wrongdoing.

For those athletes who live by the saying "It's not what you do, it's what you get caught doing", exhibit A earlier this year was Giants "slugger" Melky Cabrera and now Lance. But also blame their sport, sponsors, owners, trainers, etc.. Raw talent is very rare.. The pressure to win and succeed causes good judgment to be left behind.

Odd how some on here say everyone else in cycling cheated, but not Lance Armstrong. He is a cheater and liar just like everyone else in a high profile sport. Nothing new about an athlete using performance enhancing drugs.

It's difficult to understand that Lance Armstrong couldn't comprehend that this would be exposed at some point. You are a weak man for joining in the conspiracy to cover up "sport doping", and you are a tremendous shame to your children. You are the ultimate example to the youth culture, and you chit all over that privilege by lying to them about the pursuite of true athletics.

The Real Victim

Losing race titles & endorsements should be the least of his worries.

I thought con-artist’s that fleece the public of millions get sent to the BIG HOUSE.

Prosecutors should impose fines & penalties and have him forfeit the money that was made from this scam.

I have read in different places that Lance did not like the Livestrong organization, that he hated attending the functions, and that he is just a spokesperson, not a fully functioning part of it. Let's give credit to the workers behind the scenes who are doing the heart felt work, and bid farewell to the fake Lance.

Interesting that they dont know what to do with the seven tour de france wins because all of the runner ups except ONE either got caught juicing/doping or are dead!

Karma is a beyotch, Lance.

After having cancer and then winning all those races, it was clear something was amiss. I hope this will bring an end to all the obnoxious people wearing those yellow rubber bracelets and think because they spent a buck on it and flaunt it, it somehow makes them superior.

Kudos to Nike: First Sandusky, now Faux-Armstrong. And yes, he is a douche: ditching the wife who stayed with him throughout his cancer ordeal so he could screw starlets and whatnot; being a Dubya lover; ditching celeb girlfriends when they wanted a commitment.

Of course he has already made mucho dollars, so why not deny and live the rest of his life without a care! The testing for doping is, I say, 10 years behind so it was only a matter of a decade that he and his team postal would get caught! I knew it all along, there was no way a man could have that much super human strength for as long as Lance did! Mind you, doping is in ALL sports so really who's the real winner??
