'Dallas' Star Jack Scalia

In His LAX Carry-On

10/27/2012 5:38 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

1027-jack-scalia-gettyJack Scalia was blown away when cops found a gun in his bag at LAX this week ... telling TMZ the whole thing was just one big, innocent mistake.

As TMZ first reported, the "Dallas" star was busted Thursday after TSA agents found an unloaded 9mm Glock and a novelty police badge in his carry-on bag.

Scalia's rep, Steve Jaffe, tells TMZ the gun was a gift from a friend and the badge was a courtesy shield that was presented to him by former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani. He doesn't know how either ended up in the bag.

Scalia, who is represented by attorney Gary Jay Kaufman, was released after posting a $10,000 bond.  So far, no charges have been filed.

Still a great looking man, but that aside: years ago I was on a three month road trip. Near the end of the trip I decided I'd rather fly to one destination than drive so transferred some of the stuff from the trunk of my car to my airplane carry-on luggage. One opaque plastic bag contained a boxcutter with the razor blade attached. When the TSA employee pulled it out, she said something like, "You must be kidding!", but it was also obvious I'd made a mistake, and she let me just ditch the box cutter with her, and I rolled merrily and innocently on my way. Just an example of "people do get forgetful" and stuff like this happens. I'm not a terrorist and Mr. Scalia isn't one either.
