Phillip Phillips' Family

'Idol' Champ's Forcing Us

To Sell Pawn Shop

11/3/2012 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

It's absolutely horrible how his family but him blast like that. He is not responsible for your debts. He can help out if he desires to do so, but he's not obligated.

If they had a relationship, they wouldn't have needed to 'reach out' to him. Obviously they don't, so they need to fend for themselves.

He may not like that business, or want to save it. He probably didn't win a fortune, so he should be not waste some of what he did win, trying to save an already failing business. His parents should find some other business venture that would sustain itself.

We dont know the family situation. There could be many reasons why the business is in debt reasons that could directly be the parents fault. Maybe he doesnt have as strong as a relationship with his family as AI a family type show liked to to portray. Who knows? Also how much money as he actually made? Has his album even come out?

NEVER rely on anyone but yourself....

This doesn't ring very true, since it was announced around the time Phillip won that the family business was up for sale, as they wanted to relocate to CA to be close to Phillip.

This is soooo not true! I live in the area where he's from and there is not one iota of truth in that. If anything, his family are actually profitting from the sale of the business at least that's they way that are advertising the sale. "Own a piece of Americannna"

the guy should no dought help his family after all they did for him that is well do***ented. Shame on him, take his fame away, if he's not human, even if he's grown, he can help. He knows this business means the world to his father.

He probably has helped them, but it sounds like they are in over their heads. If the pawn shop is so in debt it has to be sold, Phillips is smart not to throw more money at it. Also, the article keeps repeating "we're told." Well, who is doing the telling?

Just how much does the family think he's earned thus far? And, is it enough to last him long after his popularity has worn off (about a year is typical).
