Phillip Phillips' Family

'Idol' Champ's Forcing Us

To Sell Pawn Shop

11/3/2012 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

Really? Really? You folks actually give these vultures a credibility rating above zero? It is scary to think the mental acuity demonstrated by these comments are from people who have the right to vote. Really?

I feel sorrry for Phillip, having to go through the things he is going thru health wise, then have your parents going to the media with their problems, not acting like grown folks should. Take care of your own business, don't rely on your child to bail you out. This problem didn't just happen, it must have been a long time coming. Phillip may have won Idol, but that doesn't mean he has that kind of money. They should be ashamed of themselves.

lol.. growing up with phil and his family.. ill 100% promise you this story is complete bs. Its TMZ.. they need attention. I laughed when i read this. Phil is a humble guy that doesnt even think hes great.. he just loves playing and hopes you like what he plays. He would also help his family if they needed the money. His dad has been in business for years..but why keep running a store when you can be traveling watching your son. thats why its up for sell. good try tmz.

My family knows Phillip, Phillip's family, and Hanna. This story is total BS. The store had been for sale well before AI was half over. Phillip's Dad owned the Pawn Shop the same time he was working at the Marine Corp Logistic Base as a Civilian (he worked there about 20 years before recently retiring) for the past several years and was ready to retire from work altogether. He and his wife eat out in Leesburg and Albany regularly and I can assure you they aren't "hurting for money".

Phillip's Dad actually was working as a civilian at the local Marine Corps Supply Base in Albany (and also had his Pawn shop as a second "job" for about 20 years and retired

I met Phil Phillips and the rest of the Idol cast at their performance in Atlantic City, NJ. I bought VIP tickets so I could meet all of them. Everyone of the was so nice, except Phil Phillips. He had a real attitude and resented that he had to meet people. Bottom line, he was a real little piss ant! Now, his family is broke because they spent everything they had to let him gain his fame. So, he turns his back on them. Even if he does not have the cash readily available at this point in time, he is a credible and marketable entity that could get a loan for his parents. He at least owes them for his life and now fame, so, he should have helped them safe their business. He turned out to be an obnoxious little prick, and, he is nothing like the other idol performers.

wow TMZ check your facts before you put up bull****. I am avid reader of this site and am from Albany, GA and know Phils family really well. None of this true! Even at that point in time, he had hardly made any money from Idol. He is supportive of his family just as his family is supportive of him. The pawn shop had been talking about closing for some time..way before Phillip went to Idol. Its owned businesses are going out of business left and right. Don't blame that **** on Phillip. Get your facts straight. This is just embarrassing for everyone
