Phillip Phillips' Family

'Idol' Champ's Forcing Us

To Sell Pawn Shop

11/3/2012 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Phillip Phillips
' family says the singer left them high and dry after winning "American Idol" -- refusing to help them out financially -- and now, they've been forced to sell their cherished family business ... Phillips family sources tell TMZ.

The Phillips family-owned Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn -- which has been in the family for 24 years -- is scheduled to hit the auction block on December 1st ... and we're told, Phillip's dad hopes to use the profits to cover the family's mounting debt.

We're told Phillip's dad hopes to bring in between $200,000-250,000 during the auction.

We're told Phillip's family has reached out multiple times to the singer for financial help since he hit it big, but Phil has blown them off.

According to Phillips family sources, the family's especially hurt by the singer's radio silence -- since they spent a ton of money on travel expenses so they could see Phillip compete on "Idol."

We made multiple calls to Phillip Phillips over several days -- but our calls were not returned.

This is total B.S. -- I remember (even TMZ reported this before, I think) that there were stories the family was going to sell the place long before he won Idol. This is crap.

you don't know the whole story. yes, maybe they did come to see him, but, maybe they didn't give a damn about how he got there. maybe he received no help from his family, so why should care. life is funny, as soon as someone gets money you always have someone with there hand out.

He should help them out...That famly buiness fed and clothed him and helped pay for his expenses during his accend up the latter to success so its only right to help his parents in their time of need....This guy is ungrateful....I wish he'd never won, now..

TMZ needs to run a retraction and apology -- TMZ itself ran photos of the shop before he won Idol with "for sale" signs out front., and TMZ itself reported way back then that they were looking to sell the shop. This is flat-out libel, demonstrably false, and malice in publishing it can be shown.

Doesn't Phillip Phillips have alot of hospital bills of his own to pay? Doesn't he need money to live off? Doesn't he need money to continue to pursue his own dreams? Trying to guilt trip your son to give you $200,000-$250,000 of money he earned when he has his own financial obligations is disgusting. Health care is not free in the US.

There's been many a family who try to cash in on a member's (or two) success...........Questions are:
* Why is the family business going under?
* 2-3 hundred thou is not a bad auction value!?!?!?
* What are the 'so called' families "mounting debts"?........A bad business manager is a bad business manager....

I think you need to wait and see....and other wise mind your business.

You have GOT to be kidding. "We're told"?? By whom? The disgruntled family who wants to ride on the kid's coattails? Too bad.

Their financial woes began long before Phillips became an Idol winner. Their financial problems are THEIR problems, not his. If he bails out one indigent family member, they all will be in line for a handout and then HE will be bankrupt.

The family should've let this little *ucktard die of kidney failure. Shame on you P.P.!!!

you don't know the whole story ! maybe no one cared about his career and didn't think he'd go anywhere and now that he's kind of made it everyone is standing with there hand out. life is funny, when your broke no one wants to know you, but as soon as you get a couple of bucks in your pocket everyone is your friend

… and the moral of the story is:

TMZ just throws out the comments from the sources, but it’s the TMZ members that do all the research and fact checking.

What a crock! His dad was making plans to sell this prior to him going on AI. Read this story posted in May 2012.

Desiree Powell

I think it's crap. Look back on the TMZ around the time AI finished...they put it on the market back then.

How they ever picked KK for the show is beyond comprehension. Looks's like a stuffed pork sausage. With all the talent out there they got this one for discount close out price.

Bill Palmer

He better keep whatever money he has, because with his lack of talent I don't believe there will be big contracts in the future. Obviously his family had debt before he was on Idol, so it seems their motive to be there for him was financially driven.
