Rage Against the Machine Bassist

Paul Ryan's a Dumbass

For Liking Our Music

11/3/2012 2:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Republican VP hopeful Paul Ryan should've thought twice before saying he's a fan of Rage Against the Machine -- because the band's bassist tells TMZ, it makes Paul look like a complete idiot.

Tim Commerford was out in Malibu this week when we asked about Paul's love for the notoriously left-wing group -- and Tim responded, "Clearly [Paul's] not smart to be admitting that."

He adds, "It seems like it's stupid for him to even bring it up, so he's obviously not that smart of a guy."

Tom Morello -- Rage's guitarist -- has already ripped Paul over his fandom, saying, Paul "is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades."

You'll recall, last time we spoke to Commerford he hinted at a new Rage album in the works. This time we asked if the new album was for real, and Commerford replied, "DEFINITELY ... maybe ... Anything is possible."

Thanks for clearing that up.

Maybe if they didn't want Republicans to be exposed to their music, they shouldn't have signed that multi million dollar record contract so that their music would become available to the masses. Such can only like their music, if THEY allow it.

the artist formerly known as hand turkey

They were just trying to make him cool and young and hip, it's a tactic. Just like TMZ posting pictures of him without a shirt and being all "paul ryan is hot." Except he's not and he's not cool or hip.

Realist we have to subscribe to the beliefs of a band to listen to their music now? You play music for money, and lots of it, dude. Quit sh!tting on your matter who they are.

This is kind of being elitist about music. You need a certain political affiliation to be a fan. I don't like Rage's music myself very much. Maybe it is because it is elitist rock, which is essentially an oxymoron.

I think Paul Ryan did fight the machine when he demanded accountability for the budget where he lives. Someone has to govern and if he gets what this group is saying, maybe that will make him govern better. I don't think people could live in a society that is run like a Rage concert.

Selebraties Suck

TMZ, thanks for writing ANOTHER story about this ugly guy from Rage Against the Machine criticizing Paul Ryan while ignoring us, THE REAL MACHINE, ignoring the suffering of the people of NY/NJ.

We appreciate your support.

Well now that I heard the actual interview, he said that it was cool that Ryan liked his music. He just commented that it was stupid for him to admit it. That might be true, but who really cars? Do you vote for someone based on what band they claim to like?

I don't think most people even know what Rage sounds like. You have to be into hardcore and metal music to listen to that. George W. said he was a fan of Ozzy and invited him to the Whitehouse, so I guess all the top politicians try to name a favorite rock band now.

What could be more ironic than George W. and his war on terrorism across the mideast, saying that he likes the guy who sang War Pigs? I think that song was kind of written about him.

I like the music, couldn't care less about any the so called meaning in the lyrics. By the way, I like the tooth missing in his mouth, makes him look very distinguished in a dirt bag kind of way.

Celebrities need to entertain us like the freaking clowns that they are and leave politics out of it. They don't live in America, they live in their bubble and have no idea what real life is about. This guy should count his blessings that someone even likes his music. Keep talking *******, one day you too will be dining with Dixie Chicks - who?
