Ariel Winter
's sister may have declared bankruptcy more than a decade ago, but her fortunes have changed dramatically ... as in there is no way in the world she needs Ariel's money ... TMZ has learned.

Shanelle Gray is married to David Barry Gray ... who is an heir to the Pepsi fortune. His grandfather was one of the founding members of Pepsi Cola.

David's grandfather, Philip Rubenstein, owned 23 of the original Pepsi plants and, with the help of a guy named Al Steele, took the company nationwide. Rubenstein served as the President of Pepsi Cola in the 1950s and amassed a fortune.

As for what happens to the untold millions of dollars ... Rubenstein died in 1997 and was survived by his wife, 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren, one of whom is David.   Rubenstein's wife died in 1998. Short story -- David -- an actor who played the role of Todd Palin in the Emmy-winning HBO movie "Game Change" -- is in line to inherit a big chunk of the family money.

Family dough aside, Shanelle and David are doing well with their 2 acting businesses  -- Gray Studios in L.A. and Gray Studios in Orange County. The business is so successful, it's expanding to NYC next year.

And Shanelle -- who gave up a fairly successful acting career to raise their 2 daughters -- is now back in the acting game and getting gigs.

Short story -- it seems Chrystal Workman, the mother of Ariel and Shanelle -- doesn't know much about her older daughter, who was taken away from her years ago and placed in foster care. It would seem she has no idea Shanelle is more financially secure than the entire cast of "Modern Family."

Accusing TMZ of low journalistic standards is like accussing a pig of being dirty, it is self evident, but this takes the cake.

First, Rubinstein didn't own 23 plants, he managed them. Big difference.

Second, a few days ago you made it sound like the older sister was money grubbing, now you make it sound like the mom is the ignorant and greedy one. Which is it? The answer is you don't know, in part because you're too lazy to Google and comprehend publically available articles.

Okay,.....if the family money 'is' true,....wouldn't he be getting a monthly trust today,.....X amount of money, per month, allowance,...to live on? The mother,.....cast members sneaking grilled sandwiches to Ariel,....if this is true, what kind of mother keeps food from her child? Also, Ariel might be mature for her age,...but she is still a teenager with harmones,....you never-ever leave teenagers alone, in a house,....someone, anyone.....should be there, to keep an eye on things,....now, if I caught my 14 year old daughter in bed with an 18 year,....there would have been hell to pay,.....problem with the mom's story, is we don't know for sure if it's true. The boy would have been in jail, if it were true. Bottom line, Ariel is a minor with a dazzling career, makes $75,000 a week,....and her sister and hubby run an acting studio. Who is looking out for the person Ariel?

TMZ'S WHOLE STORY IS A LIE... AS FOR SHANELLE GETTING MORE GIGS IN ACTING CHECK HER IMDB. SHE ONLY HAD BIT PARTS IN MOVIES/TV IN 2012, 2011, AND COUPLE IN 2010. IF SHE HAD TONS OF UPCOMING GIGS THEY WOULD BE POSTED ALREADY UNDER PRE-PRODUCTION. STOP LYING!! #TRUTH!!

Whome?

TmZ has to keep the clicks/hits going now that the parent company has put more money into them. It's obvious they have some form of biased relationship with the Kardashians and other celebs. Funny how Harvey used to say how tmz but Kim k on the map. Now her family runs tmz. But I must say I am surprised by some of the sloppy and inaccurate reporting. I guess tmz made the financial decision to basically go 100% gossip/PR and the "report" stories already out.

I like watching Modern Family and this whole drama with Ariel quite made the show quite not watchable for me now. I do know about overbearing parents as my mom was one but at 14 wanting to be with an 18 is really not a sound idea. Ariel's ego must be getting at her. A mom is a mom. At the end of the day, she is still family. Ariel should be thankful her mom is not Dina Lohan. At least she is showing concern over her wanting to live with her 18 year old BF and she is just 14!!!!!! nuff said.

Gray may be a Grandchild of Pepsi Fortune, But I bet he has seen Zero Cash from it. Just because your Uncle, Brother, etc is wealthy has No effect on Your Pocket,,,,, Areil Has the Cash and sis wants it.

Well, IDK about him having a "fortune" because of Pepsi Co. Al Steele died and left nothing to then-wife Joan Crawford nothing but debt.. Hopefully the Rubensteins fared better.

You can do better reporting than this TMZ! According to the obit,

In 1951, Mr. Rubenstein switched to the Pepsi-Cola Co., and was in charge of vending and advertising for the soda company in New York. In 1957, he was appointed vice president of Metro Pepsi in New York City, and the following year was named president. He was responsible for 23 bottling facilities as well as the acquisition of facilities throughout the country.

Mr. Rubenstein retired from Pepsi in 1964 - but retirement didn't agree with him. In 1969, he returned to the bottling industry, this time with Canada Dry. He and Harold Honickman of Philadelphia acquired Canada Dry Bottling Co. of Philadelphia, with Mr. Rubenstein as president. In 1980, he returned to New York with Canada Dry as chairman emeritus and consultant, and remained active until retiring in 1995.

That actually sounds pretty typical of this family. "I don't actually know much about other family members, and I don't spend time with them, but I know ALL about them and will swear to anything to get my way.
