Boxing legend Hector "Macho" Camacho will be taken off life support, the boxing legend's rep tells TMZ.

According to the rep, Camacho's family made the decision to remove him from life support after doctors declared he was brain dead.

The rep says the family is currently making funeral arrangements -- and are deciding between holding the services in either Puerto Rico or New York.

As we reported, Camacho was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday in Puerto Rico. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he went into cardiac arrest.

The former boxing champ was reportedly in the passenger seat of a car ... when another vehicle rolled up and someone opened fire ... striking Camacho several times in the neck and face.

The driver of Camacho's car was killed in the attack. Cops say they recovered 10 baggies of cocaine from the car, 9 of which were on the driver's person.

That said he had every right to be arrogant you can do that when you're the alpha dog. And nobody did better than him. Love or hate him the man was poetry in motion just beautiful to watch. The tragedy here is that from the moment he stepped in the ring he was surrounded by a bunch of blood sucking leeches who were determine to squeeze every penny out of him seduced by the glitz and glamour. And although he may have succumb to his demons he will be revered as a true borinquen warrior in the Latin community inspiring a generation of young minority athletes to emulate what he accomplished in the ring not for what he did out the ring. And for all his detractors the undeniable fact is he was a bad mamma jamma!!!!! So if we are going to hold everyone to your same standards then let's be fair about it. Elvis was a junkie Jimi Hendrix was a junkie River Phoenix was a junkie hell even Sigman froyd was a junkie ( I don't know if I spelled his name right) I guess what I'm trying to say is in the end we're all human subject to whatever ails a human creature so ease up on the guy and recognize what he accomplished in the Ring. Not for shortcomings outside of the Ring.

update: Famed Puerto Rican boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho is clinically brain dead, doctors said Thursday, though they said family members were disagreeing on whether to take him off life support.

Dr. Ernesto Torres said doctors have finished performing all medical tests on Camacho, who was shot in the face Tuesday night.

"We have done everything we could," said Torres, who is the director of the Centro Medico trauma center in San Juan. "We have to tell the people of Puerto Rico and the entire world that Macho Camacho has died, he is brain dead."

He said at a news conference that the family expects to say by Friday if Camacho should remain on life support.

Torres said Camacho's father has already indicated that he wants the boxer taken off life support and his organs donated, but one of his sisters opposes the idea.

"This is a very difficult moment," he said.

Ismael Leandry, a longtime friend and former manager, told reporters that Camacho's mother also is wavering on taking her son off life support and would like more time with him. He said the family is waiting for Camacho's oldest son to arrive.

@susie - it would be a sweet thought except that camacho would end up paralyzed and severly brain damaged to to lack of blood to his brain - and you have to ask f that is the way he would want to spend his life:-(

Firstly, My Condolences and Prayers for the family, friends, loved-ones, and fans of Hector Camacho.

Whew. Always, a potential boxing-machine and pure heart. From a public-persona of a loud and ****y bad-a** , but a true Ring-General who loved his fans and his fans loved him. Legendary hand-speed and execution. May The True and Living Yahweh, rest his soul.

Sure does look like quite the tough guy there with all those tubes sticking out of his face, huh?

Remember kids, this is what happens to s***bags who beat their wife and kids, rob electronics stores while high on ecstasy and get involved in bad coke deals.

It is truly a shame when anyone passes this man was a boxing legend and the media is running him through the mud. There is no compassion in this world, always it is "well they must have been doing something wrong or they were in the wrong part of town. Hector is gone, let the man rest in peace and quit judging him.
