Universal Studios Sues

Porn Co.'s Are Ripping

You can't just shoot a filthy porno and call it "50 Shades of Grey" -- at least according to Universal Studios, which is now suing several XXX companies for ripping off its "50 Shades" movie rights.

Universal filed the lawsuit against three porn companies, claiming they illegally made an unauthorized film -- called "Fifty Shades of Grey: a XXX Adaptation" -- as well as bootleg "50 Shades"-themed sex toys.

Universal -- along with Fifty Shades Ltd. -- claims the film isn't parody, and therefore isn't protected under the First Amendment.

According to the suit, "The first XXX adaptation ... does not comment on, criticize, or ridicule the originals. It is a rip-off, plain and simple."

The suit continues, "By lifting exact dialogue, characters, events, story, and style from the Fifty Shades trilogy, [producer] Smash Pictures ensured that the first XXX adaptation was, in fact, as close as possible to the original works."

The suit claims two additional XXX films are currently in the works -- and an accompanying sex toy set called "Fifty Shades of Pleasure" has already been released.

Universal wants damages -- plus an injunction blocking any further releases of the film.

So far, no gag orders have been issued.

So call it '53 Shades Between Black & White' and be done with it. Everyone will know what you're getting at.

It doesn't matter if the book sucks or not, it's a very successful published book and Universal paid five million for the rights. The porn company paid nothing for those very rights and is just ripping off something sucessful, which everyone has heard of, to make a quick buck. They could have changed the movie's name, or the characters, or the storyline but they COMPLETELY ripped off the author of the book. You can't just steal something that has been published, not change anything, and think no one will notice. How stupid can you be? Obviously, these porn producers can't come up with their own ideas so they keep doing lame unfunny parodies, which suck, both literally and figuratively, and they think are being creative but there is not a thought in their head that is original and their own. And Universal Studios will easily prevail in this case and put this moron porn producer out of business for good.

Phil is 100% spot on in his answer. Porn does parodies of movies, tv shows and public figures but what this company did was ripoff the book to make a porn version. We're they too lazy or arrogant or both? I also hope this company shuts down yet this lawsuit isn't the reason why.

To be completely honest i'd want to watch the porn version more. I know Universal is going to censor the crap out of the book. 50 shades is porn. What's the point if you remove the porn?

50 Shades is porn. There's not enough story between the sex scenes to film a movie.
