Australian DJs

We're SUSPENDING OURSELVES

Due to Suicide

The two Australian DJs behind the Kate Middleton hospital prank that may have led to the suicide of a nurse have decided to REMOVE themselves from the airwaves.

Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns the station, has released a statement ... saying, "SCA and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward VII’s Hospital."

SCA says the CEO has spoken with both of the DJs ... who are both "deeply shocked" over the tragedy.

The company adds, "SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."

Interesting that SCA did NOT pull the DJs off the air immediately following the prank ... but instead waited until the backlash after Saldanha's suicide.

Oh please. It isn't anyone's fault when someone chooses the selfish act of suicide. The woman clearly had some issues BEFORE the stunt.

Im Sorry but these DJ's crossed way over the boundry of a prank ,, If it really was a prank before the nurse started to give out private information about princess Kate they should of ENDED the call..PERIOD..They should be fired for this lack of humor prank as they call it..
How funny to them is it now that people are dead, security has been breeched, and others that were involved that got hurt becasue of this.
If these so called pranks are okay with the radio station then maybe they ALL should fired.

THERE WAS NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT THE PRANK..IT WAS INVASION OF PRIVACY AND CROSSED THE LINE IN MANY WAYS.iN THE USA THEY WOULD OF NEVER GOTTEN AWAY WITH THIS.

Pranks like this put the target between a rock and a hard place. Imainge if the receptionst had REFUSED to put through the call, thinking it was a prank -- but it really was from the Queen. In that situation she could have faced very simliar consquences: possible mass public humiliation, and the likely impending loss of her job and inability to ever again find work in her field.

This was a stupid prank but nothing worse than anything Ashton Kutcher does on Pranked! or whatever that show is so I don't understand the vitriol. Moreover, the faux Queen did not sound remotely like the Queen and the stupid faux Charles in the background was so ridiculous I first thought that the nurse was also in on the "joke".

Uh oh i am screwed

There is no need for them to do that, it was a joke, they never expected to get put through (NO ONE WOULD) While i am saddened that the nurse chose to kill herself, there was obviously more going on than this in her life, if there wasn't then sorry but IMO she had a screw loose for thinking she needed to kill herself. She put a phone call through, what about the nurse who actually gave the information out? IMO she should have realized it was a joke and hung up.

Wow and this was supposed to be entertainment??? Why can't people just give the royals their privacy to begin with. Sad that the Jacintha chose this. But I could imagine what she was going through. One day a normal day at work then here comes the call that changed her life forever along with her family. Very sad!!! I hope that they get fired for what they have created.

I don't think the DJ's should be fired they intended no harm. No one could have foreseen this conclusion. But it does show no matter how innocent the prank things can end tragically. These pranks need to stop and maybe more thought should be put into their comedy.

Come on now. That prank was funny. It does suck that the nutty nurse killed herself but it wasn't the dj's fault. So they pranked as the queen. They didn't do any harm.

They should be fired. They should also find out who approved of the taped hoax call and let it be aired and fire them also.

Nurses work hard and are mostly under appreciated as it is by patients. Now you have these pricks calling and screwing with them just to 'get some better ratings.'. Pathetic..you should both apologize and be fired from your jobs.

This is one of the instances where there is no one to blame, so the public picks the most ridiculous person to place the blame on. The person to blame was the woman who took her own life as are the crazy British that believe that the Royals are Gods and Goddesses.

That poor woman. The hospital probably came down hard on her and she must have thought she'd be hated by the royals and the entire public. I don't know, that seems like too much for someone to take who's never been in the public eye.

This woman was embarassed WORLDWIDE, she could not take the shame. She was not a Kardashian ,so not used to such things. This is why I have always hated pranks, this one was not funny. Unintended consequences are still consequences.
