8:30 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops are NOT planning on conducting a criminal investigation into the death at this point ... and believe there was no foul play.

We're told a post-mortem examination (autopsy) is currently being scheduled and is expected to be conducted in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Kate and William's rep has issued a statement on behalf of the royals saying they are "deeply saddened" by the news ... adding, "Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

A nurse at the hospital where Kate Middleton was treated for morning sickness this week has been found dead ... and suicide is suspected -- after she mistakenly transferred a prank radio call to Kate's hospital room.

According to law enforcement, the woman was found dead at an address near King Edward VII hospital, where she worked, around 9:30 AM this morning.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but were unable to revive her. Scotland Yard is treating the death as a possible suicide.

The woman -- a nurse identified as Jacintha Saldanha -- was the victim of a prank by an Australian radio station, which called King Edward VII hospital on Wednesday pretending to be the Queen of England (with a terrible accent) and asking to speak to Kate.

The nurse immediately transferred the call to Kate's room, where another nurse then nervously explained Kate's condition over the phone. The call was broadcast all over the planet.

The radio station issued an apology just hours after the prank aired, saying, "We were very surprised that our call was put through. We thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

Kate was released from the hospital yesterday.

This is so sad, one human life should not have more value than another......All this 'Royal' craziness should be kept in perspective...

Though I hate all pranks, it would be great if this report was a prank that would devastate those rotten DJs. I don't believe it when they said they thought they'd be hung up on. If that was true, they should have hung up themselves when the called was transferred.

This is very sad. I hope the guys who pulled this "prank" have some consequences. I think this is the fault of the royal security--they should have a set protocol for situations like this that involves the royal family.

How insensitive some people are. She likely got her ass severely chewed by her bosses, facing termination and public ridicule--who knows what she had going on in her personal life--but she obviously didn't need that bull**** (who does?).

British press is saying that it was the nurse, not the receptionist.

"We can confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha.

"Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and a well-respected and popular member of staff with all her colleagues.

"We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital has been supporting her at this difficult time."

What is really sad is anyone believing she killed herself. Sorry, but I highly doubt it. I mean this is the Royal family we are talking about. I'm not a conspiracy junkie or anything but I'm just not buying it

TMZ, some media outlets are saying it's the nurse, not the receptionist who has died.

Either one is just sad anyway. Those radio hosts must feel awful, though who could foresee something this drastic.

That's awful. I'm guessing she was already an anxious and depressed person and this was the last straw of disappointment in herself. It's very sad. I'm sorry for her family
