8:30 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops are NOT planning on conducting a criminal investigation into the death at this point ... and believe there was no foul play.

We're told a post-mortem examination (autopsy) is currently being scheduled and is expected to be conducted in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Kate and William's rep has issued a statement on behalf of the royals saying they are "deeply saddened" by the news ... adding, "Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

A nurse at the hospital where Kate Middleton was treated for morning sickness this week has been found dead ... and suicide is suspected -- after she mistakenly transferred a prank radio call to Kate's hospital room.

According to law enforcement, the woman was found dead at an address near King Edward VII hospital, where she worked, around 9:30 AM this morning.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but were unable to revive her. Scotland Yard is treating the death as a possible suicide.

The woman -- a nurse identified as Jacintha Saldanha -- was the victim of a prank by an Australian radio station, which called King Edward VII hospital on Wednesday pretending to be the Queen of England (with a terrible accent) and asking to speak to Kate.

The nurse immediately transferred the call to Kate's room, where another nurse then nervously explained Kate's condition over the phone. The call was broadcast all over the planet.

The radio station issued an apology just hours after the prank aired, saying, "We were very surprised that our call was put through. We thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We’re very sorry if we’ve caused any issues and we’re glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

Kate was released from the hospital yesterday.

Wow. If this was a suicide, this woman must have had serious emotional issues/fragility - not just upset over a prank call and job security. Sad.

Kate's pregnancy isn't off to a good start. So much for the charmed life of a Royal. Who would want it??

I love a good prank, but when it involves someones health I do not find it funny at all. When someone is in the hospital leave them and the hospital alone. This is just sad.

Sure it's a suicide. This is what you get when you mess with the queen. Same fate for Princess Diana.

I wonder how the radio station feels about their "Prank" now??? They should be ashamed of themselves and held liable for their actions!

now only if all the media reports in America who constantly report on the what is going on in GB would do the same and kill themselves.

Good riddance!

WOW, that really sucks!! There's no details here about what else happened with the nurse, but it must have been really bad for her to do that, or she was seriously depressed to begin with? I actually feel bad for everyone involved. It was a really lame prank, kind of sloppily done, but it wasn't overly mean in the call itself, just kind of lame overall. The DJs must feel absolutely horrible and they don't sound like overly malicious people either, despite the lameness of how they sounded. They didn't even think it'd work so easily or even close to having fallout like this, but now this will always be on their heads personally and professionally and they will definitely suffer for their stupidity for the rest of their lives.

On the side, I just read that the prince is doing all he can to insulate Kate from the coming media storm over her pregnancy and now there's this horrible thing to start things off. I would only hope that the media in general would learn from this and back off and give them some privacy, but you know that will never happen. Personally, I would be perfectly fine to just hear about it again when she gives birth and nothing more.

I now avoid pranking people myself, as even small ones can easily go sideways and spin out of control. This is a good lesson why, but in an unimaginable scale. This just sucks all the way around...

That is so terribly sad. Does anyone know if the UK has anything like the USA HIPAA laws? The poor nurse was probably so flustered thinking she was speaking to The Queen she barely paid attention to the voice or accent on the other end of the phone. That is just awful, that poor woman. I wonder how William feels, his mother was dogged to death by this kind of crap. This must be horrible for him on so many levels.

Hahahahahah. What a funny, funny prank they played. Here's a fun idea - why not start playing songs on the radio instead of having retard-fest on morning shows? Do you really have to wonder why everyone listens to Sirius and XM? No stupid DJs.
