The company that owns the radio station responsible for the Kate Middleton radio prank says it has "terminated" the show ... and will implement "a company-wide suspension of 'prank' calls."

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) issued the statement this morning saying it still feels "deep regret" for the death of hospital nurse Jacintha Saldanha following the prank ... and "take the events of the last few days very seriously."

SCA says it has taken the following action:

- The suspension of all advertising on 2DayFM until further notice;
- The termination of 2DayFM’s Hot 30 show;
- A Company-wide suspension of “prank” calls
- A comprehensive review of relevant company policies and processes

SCA says it has tried to reach out to the hospital, but had "no success."

SCA doesn't believe it broke the law by making the calls ... but says it will cooperate with any police investigation.

SCA Chief Executive Officer Rhys Holleran added, "First and foremost we would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha for their loss. We are very sorry for what has happened.”

He says SCA is also "providing support to our people who are deeply saddened by this tragic and unforseen event.”

As we previously reported ... before they were suspended, the DJs were actually BRAGGING about the call -- in which they impersonated members of the royal family to get information about Kate's medical condition.

Notice it says they canceled the show, not fired the DJs. They will be right back on the air on another show in a week or so.

I think it's a stretch to blame the DJs, but at the same time England loves their royals, especially William, Kate

Once again the Obama-loving idiots at TMZ show their true lack of sense by trying to equate a prank call with murder.

That's just stupid, there were obvious issues with this nurses mental state that she would take her own life, leaving behind her 2 kids and husband over her 2 second part in this prank. I can see temporarily shutting down the show to allow people to process this and let things blow over but to fire them is ridiculous.

Not the Dj's fault. A mentally healthy person does not kill themselves for transferring a phone call. This is a ridiculously tragic story. All blame is Jacintha's.

The nurse is obviously unstable. Maybe an unhealthy obsession with the royals? Should everyone grab a razor when they hear BA BA BOOOEY? Looney tune

She was embarrassed an probably felt as if she dishonored her family by making such a mistake as I am sure she took great pride in her job as well as assisting the royal family only to be shamed and made fun of for a mistake. Sad.

The situations tragic and the prank wasn't really funny. More juvenile than anything. But most normal people would not commit suicide over it which makes me wonder if the nurse was maybe a bit emotionally fragile, to begin with. Still, when you pull something stupid on a stranger, you have no way of knowing what their frame of mind is. You still have to own the end result of your behavior

If the nurse didn't kill herself the joke would still be funny as fk.!! The DJ's r totally being used as scape goats.. Selfish act in my opinion

well you see, that's what happens when adults act like kids, they think there are no repercussions to immature behavior. you mess with people's lives and think it's funny as heII, then uh-oh. it's a form of bullying, designed to make others look foolish.

She was ridiculed by the entire planet. Death threats and threats toward her family are a given. You have NO idea how far it went for her. You'd crack if the weight of the world was on your shoulders too. They went too far, overstepping boundaries of privacy for not just a royal family, but any family. They should've been fired on that notion alone.

There was only one reason for that stupid prank call...to publicly humiliate someone. These dumb DJ's may not have meant any harm, but they meant to humiliate someone, probably a member of the royal family. Instead they humiliated this poor nurse who was just trying to do her job. How would these DJ's like it if they were humiliated by someone, not locally, but INTERNATIONALLY! I don't know of any private person who is strong enough to endure GLOBAL humiliation. This poor woman was probably afraid that her name would eventually be released and it became too much to bear.
