The company that owns the radio station responsible for the Kate Middleton radio prank says it has "terminated" the show ... and will implement "a company-wide suspension of 'prank' calls."

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) issued the statement this morning saying it still feels "deep regret" for the death of hospital nurse Jacintha Saldanha following the prank ... and "take the events of the last few days very seriously."

SCA says it has taken the following action:

- The suspension of all advertising on 2DayFM until further notice;
- The termination of 2DayFM’s Hot 30 show;
- A Company-wide suspension of “prank” calls
- A comprehensive review of relevant company policies and processes

SCA says it has tried to reach out to the hospital, but had "no success."

SCA doesn't believe it broke the law by making the calls ... but says it will cooperate with any police investigation.

SCA Chief Executive Officer Rhys Holleran added, "First and foremost we would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha for their loss. We are very sorry for what has happened.”

He says SCA is also "providing support to our people who are deeply saddened by this tragic and unforseen event.”

As we previously reported ... before they were suspended, the DJs were actually BRAGGING about the call -- in which they impersonated members of the royal family to get information about Kate's medical condition.

All you had to do was play the same music over and over and over and over and over and over and over! I heard this show and it would be like listening to Shotgun and John McCain in the morning.

Wow people wake up... this is not a case of bullying people this was not a humiliating prank....this was a woman who had thought a long time about what she was going to do not just an idea that came to her in a 24 time span....stop blaming everyone else for "your" own problems....this is what is wrong with society today.....and for the person below saying she had the "weight of the world" on her shoulders.....welcome to life!!!! I know many people who feel like that and don't go kill themselves over it....

While no one could have ever predicted the first nurse who transferred the call would commit suicide..... what did they think would happen if they aired this "prank"? It was most certainly going to result in someone either being reprimanded or, worse, fired from their job. That's why it was never funny. The call never should have aired when it got that far.

My guess is the other nurse got fired, and the one who committed suicide did so out of guilt that she was the one who transferred the call to her.

It just doesn't make sense that the nurse killed herself over this. It may never be reported, but something big is missing from this story. It's like killing yourself because someone else dented the company car you happened to be driving.

OH PULEEEZ, PEPO ARE RETARDED... HOW ABOUT WAITING FOR THE OFFICIAL AUTOPSY RESULTS BEFORE CONCLUDING ANYTHING. POINT BLANK, NO ONE COMMITS SUICIDE OVER TRANSFERRING A FAKE ASS CALL. EVEN THE NURSE WHO ACTUALLY GAVE OUT INFO DIDNT COMMIT SUICIDE. YOU'RE TALKING THE ADMIN/RECEPTION NURSE, SMFH. OBVIOUS THE CHIC NURSE HAD MENTAL ISSUES BEFORE KILLING HERSELF. HOW DO WE KNOW SHE WASNT SUFFERING PERSONAL/FAMILY DRAMA BEFORE.. AND THIS WAS JUST THE FINAL ACT. YAAAWWWN!!!! #TRUTH!!

Workers in a hospital are there to care for sick and dying people. They aren't there for the amusement and entertainment of radio DJ's.

Well personally I don't feel these Dj's should be held accountable to such a strong degree. Yes, they played a prank, yes it was silly and foolish, but anyone taking this call should have used some common sense and realized that Queen Elizabeth would have never called through the hospital line. If this had happened in the states, they would have been been fired for Hippa violations. Also..the only one responsible for taking a life is the person who ended it. Obviously a lot more was going on then just this prank. No one wakes up one day..and just kills themselves over something like this, especially when you have children. It is a selfish and cowardly act!!!!! My heart breaks for those children who now won't know their mother...those are the real victims, and it comes from her choices..!!!

Me

Radio stations all make prank calls to people/businesses and have been doing it for years. I really don't feel it's right to blame the DJ's. Who would think someone would kill themselves over a prank call. I feel horrible for the family but I think this was more due to the reaction the hospital supervisors had with her than the call itself, but of course the hospital would not admit it now. Not when there is someone else to blame.

These two people are not to blame for what happened to the nurse who transferred their call. This was clearly meant to be a prank which radio stations do all the time. I feel terrible for the family of the nurse who felt the only way out (of whatever she was feeling for transferring the call) was to take her own life. I'm sure many people thought, (as did I) that it was unbelievable they even got through to the room. I didn't blame them when I first heard of this tragedy and I still don't now.

Radio shows encourage this stuff to get ratings, so they're more responsible here for the prank calls, the others being worse than this one.

She probably didn't kill herself. She was probably killed for leaking royal information....and they made it look like she did it herself. Because that's the kinda **** that happens
