Australian Radio Station

Donating $500K in Guilt

Money to Nurse's Family

12/11/2012 6:38 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1211_2day_memorial_fund_Artice_2The Australian radio station responsible for the prank phone call that led to British nurse Jacintha Saldanha's suicide ... is planning to give her family about half a million bucks.

The corporation that owns 2DayFM announced it will donate all the station's advertising profits for the rest of the year to a fund set up to support Saldanha's 2 teenage children and husband.

The company estimates the total donation will be around 320,000 British pounds ... or roughly $500,000.

2DayFM's generous donation comes the day after it pulled the plug on the show that placed the prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital room ... with one of its DJs pretending to be Queen Elizabeth.

Saldanha transferred the call to Kate's room, and was found dead near the hospital a few days later.

What a sneaky, deceiving way to keep advertisers from pulling out of their show. If they do, the family will get less money. "it will donate all the station's advertising profits for the rest of the year.." RIGHT. This is to save the show. They should have said they would donate $500,000 without saying it was tied to the amount of advertising they had on the show up to that point. Disgusting.

This was not a prank or a joke. This was done with the obvious intent to deceive to gain information that was private. Shame on you callous people the nurse obviously must have been a trouble woman and needed help.

Rubbish! They should still sue! It doesn't matter what spirit the prank was made in. Someone died and as a result, heads need to swing. Glad their sacked and the radio station should fold too. Don't make excuses for these *******s, they're the saem ppl who gave a 12 year old a lie detector test about being RAPED!!! When is enough enough?

The station did a silly call. Not like anyone else has ever done this. The woman who died just transferred the call, didn't give sky information so there must have been other factors involved for her to take such drastic action. The djs involved are absolutely crushed by this. They aren't heartless *******s.

I am gonna say it, the nurse was wrong to transfer the call. The hospital should have a system set up where you have to have a special code to get information on any patient. It's not all the station or the D.J.'S fault

I'm sorry someone died, but people play pranks on people everyday. There had to be underlying facts that contributed to her death besides a *****ing prank call. People are too ****ing serious these days! Jesus Christ!!

what BS paying this family anything. it was their wife / mother that determined she had enough of living and took her own life. why was she NOT concerned for her own family. when you have children and CHOOSE to take your own life - you own it! regardless of cir***stance. cowardly.

this is rediculious! first they should not have been fired at all , not only was it a prank but the nurse they actually pranked didnt commit suicide just the selfish lady who first answered the phone and forwarded it.. they didnt prank her because she forwarded the call to the nurse who was taking care of kate.. so really commiting suicide over forwarding a call thats just simply retarded and to do that to your husband and children.. how freaking selfish.. honestly i doubt it had anything to do with the call.. she obviously suffered from mental illness long before hand and had it planned for sometime.

"Saldanha transferred the call to Kate's room"

Pretty misleading to assert the call was transferred to Kate's room ... unless TMZ knows something that the rest of the world is still yet to be advised of.

Probably more accurate to report "Saldanha transferred the call to the ward floor where Kate was staying"
