Sorry, We're NOT

Selling Your Photos!!!!

breaking news

Instagram is in full damage control mode ... with company's co-founder firing off an emergency statement SWEARING the company has no plans to sell its user's photos.

The statement is a desperate attempt to quell concerns after the company released a new terms of service agreement to users yesterday which says "a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you."

After several famous and non-famous users vowed to stop using Instagram, co-founder Kevin Systrom released a statement saying, "It is our mistake that this language is confusing. To be clear: it is not our intention to sell your photos."

Systrom continues, "[The new terms of service] was interpreted by many that we were going to sell your photos to others without any compensation. This is not true."

He adds, "Instagram users own their content and Instagram does not claim any ownership rights over your photos. Nothing about this has changed. We respect that there are creative artists and hobbyists alike that pour their heart into creating beautiful photos, and we respect that your photos are your photos. Period."

"I always want you to feel comfortable sharing your photos on Instagram and we will always work hard to foster and respect our community and go out of our way to support its rights."

Systrom says more updates will be coming soon.

Delete instagram unless you receive all that bs above in a new contract. Or expect to see your kids photos any and everywhere with no recourse.

Ok, then change the confusing statement to what you really mean becuz the way I see it, you look stupid right now! I think Instagram didnt realize this ish would hit the fan...either that or they didnt think anyone could read and comprehend on their own what it meant.

It is not our intention to close out our Instagram accounts and leave you greedy SOBs in the dust... but we may do so regardless.

Go ahead and sell my photos. If you can find someone that would pay for them let me know. That way we both will be surprised. Lol.

It's not their "intention" today, but ask them next month and you might get a different answer. You can't trust this Weaselly McWeasel Instagram guy as far as you can throw him - he's the one who repeatedly claimed to CA anti-trust regulators that no one other than FB showed any interest in buying Instagram, but in reality he'd been negotiating with Twitter for weeks.

Interesting that they never bothered to actually say WHAT that little bit of legalese meant. I'm not a lawyer, but I have a pretty good idea what "a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you." means.

go home!

I didn't think they could SELL people's photos, wasn't it more that they said they can use any of your photos for promotional purposes without your consent? That is what the news reported this AM. Just as bad and invasion of privacy!

A TOS (Terms Of Service) is a "contract" you agree to when you go into business. All corporations are now changing the TOS to become more beneficial to them AFTER you agreed to the original TOS. If you refuse, you do not have access to the system.
This needs to stop. Paid services like Xbox Live are famous for doing this. If you disagree to the changes your access to the system is halted and there's no refunds for the time you have left.
You only have 2 choices. Agree or be kicked off the system and no refunds for paid memberships. You never violated the original TOS you agreed to so there's no reason why you should be forced to agree to something you disagree to.
Yes, you do have the opportunity to challenge the changes but those never work. Every corporation will tell you that all you have to do is send them a registered letter within 14 days of you agreeing to the new TOS outlining what parts you do not agree to.
Nowhere does it say they will accept your challenges but you have to agree to it first and that will hold up in any court of law.

Thank God I didn't open an account with them. I was gonna do it but I just felt like that chick said on 2Broke chicks "Twitter is for stupid people and Instagram is for stupid people who can't read" I know how insensitive of me.

it is not our intention to sell your photos."

Pay attention to the wording people.

OK, then if not your intention then who's intentions is it, since you know its written in your term and agreements.
