'Wheel Of Fortune' Contestant

I'll Solve the Puzzle ...

12/21/2012 10:05 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1221_wheel_of_fortune_articleIt's time to play ...  "WHEEL OF FORTUNE"!!!!  Everybody ready? Great, the category is "Living Things"... now guess this phrase:

SE _EN  S_ _ NS    _ -S_ _ MM _ NG

Pretty easy right? Not if you were a contestant named Renee on Wednesday night's show -- who correctly solved the puzzle, but mispronounced "Seven Swans a-Swimming" ... as "Swimmin."

Turns out, no "g" ... meant no cash (which in Renee's case was thousands) -- because even though the letter was clearly on the board, Pat Sajak and the "Wheel" honchos quickly rejected the answer and moved on to the next player.

Not surprisingly, when the next contestant went to solve the game, she made sure to say "Swimming"
-- HARD G.

But ya gotta check out the tape, because during the EPIC rejection of an obviously correct answer ... Renee managed to grin and bear it, despite getting ROBBED ...

With a capital "R."

You gotta answer the question right. They're VERY strict and they did exactly right. Been on two game shows and they make it very clear you must answer EXACTLY right.

They deny the win when someone misses the S pluralizing a word as well. They are nothing if not consistent when it comes to that.

I've seen them let people get away with stuff like that. They screwed her!

I'm glad they didn't give it to her. She looked and sounded like a nazi. I mean Yikes!

As someone who was a contestant on "Wheel" in 2003, let me offer this open letter to this contestant:

Nope. You weren't screwed. You were told the rules in the hours and hours and hours of pre-taping instruction. You know that you were to E-NUN-SEE-ATE every single syllable of the puzzle. So stop whining about being robbed. You weren't. You didn't follow the rules. Sucks to be you, but that's the way it is.

I did not notice any difference in the pronunciation between the two contestants. Renee was blatantly screwed for no reason. She said it right.

She sounds like a common hick. Swimming = Swimmin'. I don't think so. Take high school English again lady.

How do say "tomato." People pronounce words differently depending on where they are from.

Maybe she should learn to speak English again. Swimmin is not Swimming..duh...slang = losing thousands. Aren't you so proud. LOL> dumbass..

She's baaaack

I thought I heard a short "g" sound, but she was so clear when she was calling the letters. I don't think she has a case.

People. This is not the first time this has happened. It is a pretty well known thing that you can't use slang. Swimmin is not the same as Swimming. The puzzle called for Swimming (8 letters not 7 in the slang)

This also happens a lot on Jeopardy. They will answer correctly, get the point and 5 min later take away the money because the mispronounced it.

Again, this is well known if you watch the shows. You have to say it correctly and pronounce it correctly.

She tried to get cutsie and say it different than exactly shown. Flunk.

I'm flying my "BULL****" flag on that one. If the "G" weren't already turned around I could understand.
