'Wheel Of Fortune' Contestant

I'll Solve the Puzzle ...

I GOT SCREWED!

12/21/2012 10:05 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

1221_wheel_of_fortune_articleIt's time to play ...  "WHEEL OF FORTUNE"!!!!  Everybody ready? Great, the category is "Living Things"... now guess this phrase:

SE _EN  S_ _ NS    _ -S_ _ MM _ NG

Pretty easy right? Not if you were a contestant named Renee on Wednesday night's show -- who correctly solved the puzzle, but mispronounced "Seven Swans a-Swimming" ... as "Swimmin."

Turns out, no "g" ... meant no cash (which in Renee's case was thousands) -- because even though the letter was clearly on the board, Pat Sajak and the "Wheel" honchos quickly rejected the answer and moved on to the next player.

Not surprisingly, when the next contestant went to solve the game, she made sure to say "Swimming"
-- HARD G.

But ya gotta check out the tape, because during the EPIC rejection of an obviously correct answer ... Renee managed to grin and bear it, despite getting ROBBED ...

With a capital "R."

If the "G" weren't showing, I might give the show the benefit of the doubt, but since it was...it was obviously a vernacular thing, and not ignorance of the existence of the "G". She was ROBBED.

WOF should be ashamed of themselves! And so should anyone else that thinks they were right in rejecting that answer.

Different Rules Apply

Just because they enforce proper spelling and annunciation of our English language does not make them unfair. We as a society are ever increasingly more lazy with abbreviations and misspellings. I'm glad they are enforcing their long standing rules. There is only one way to pronounce an English spoken word correctly, and she slanged it up.

If she had pronounced the puzzle correctly with the "g" on the end she would have won. I watched the show and she said swimmin, that was not the word that was being spelled. She has no grounds for anything but learning how to talk.

I heard her pronounce it correctly. Maybe she has a bit of an accent, but I heard the "g".

She already solved the G in swimming when she bought the letter...they should have given it to her...

They should honestly be ashamed of themselves. I could understand if the G wasn't turned over yet, but it was. Not only that, but she was the reason why it was turned over in the first place, because she called the letter 'G'. She was royally screwed.

Way to screw over our military. "The Wheel" does that crap often. Some people just have a different way of saying things, depending what part of the country they are from.

What you failed to mention was that, on Thursday night, a contestant named Rufus solved a puzzle about Hickory-Smoked ham, and stated 'Hickory Smoke' as the answer, and they gave it to him. There needs to be consistency on the show. I would be really upset after that.

I am learning Englisch. I thought you don't pronounce the G in -ING! I don't hear the G when english speaking people talk. It sounds more like they attemp to say the G but don't actually do it.

People misspeak answers on that show all the time, and even though the letters are flipped, they loose. The contestant answered the puzzle incorrectly. Period. Because the show will use idiomatic expression, the contestants must be precise to win. Just because most Americans like to dangle participles and split infinitives or whatever, there's no reason WOF should be compelled to do so. And, anyone who claims they heard the "g" is making it up.
